Flexural performance and microstructural characterization of cement-treated sand reinforced with palm fiber

open access: yesJournal of Materials Research and Technology, 2023
Sands are mixed with cement to create cement-treated sands (CTSs) for embankment and road materials in civil engineering works. However, CTS exhibits undesirable brittle behavior because the CTS can break suddenly after the applied stresses reach their ...

Hyperactive ice‐binding proteins stabilize cell membranes and improve resistance to dehydration stress in Caenorhabditis elegans

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
TisIBP8, a fungal‐derived hyperactive ice‐binding protein, helps Caenorhabditis elegans survive dehydration. It localizes near cell membranes, reduces cell damage, and helps maintain membrane structure during drying. These results suggest that ice‐binding proteins can protect cells from dehydration stress as well as freezing stress.

Brainstem and Cerebellar Volume Loss and Associated Clinical Features in Progressive Supranuclear Palsy

open access: yesAnnals of Clinical and Translational Neurology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Introduction Progressive Supranuclear Palsy (PSP) is a neurodegenerative ‘tauopathy’ with predominating pathology in the basal ganglia and midbrain. Caudal tau spread frequently implicates the cerebellum; however, the pattern of atrophy remains equivocal.

Effect of Nitrogen Fertilization on the Quality of Colored Cotton Fibers in the Brazilian Semi-Arid Region

open access: yesJournal of Natural Fibers
Naturally colored fiber cotton has fibers that present natural colors without the need for dyeing processes or dye application. Low nitrogen availability during production can affect fiber quality.

Structure–Function Decoupling of the Sensorimotor and Default Mode Networks in Black Americans With MS

open access: yesAnnals of Clinical and Translational Neurology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Background and Objectives Multiple sclerosis (MS) exhibits racially disparate rates of disease progression. Black people with MS (B‐PwMS) experience a more severe disease course than non‐Hispanic White people with MS (NHW‐PwMS). Here we investigated structural and functional connectivity as well as structure–function decoupling in the ...

IV Thrombolysis Facilitates Interventional Reperfusion in Non‐Cardioembolic but Not Cardioembolic Stroke

open access: yesAnnals of Clinical and Translational Neurology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Objective Intravenous thrombolysis (IVT) before thrombectomy for ischemic stroke may alter clot structure and procedural performance. We investigated how IVT relates to thrombectomy metrics across stroke etiologies. Methods We performed a time‐to‐event analysis of consecutive patients with anterior circulation large vessel occlusion (acLVO ...

Strength scaling in fiber composites [PDF]

open access: yes32nd Structures, Structural Dynamics, and Materials Conference, 1991
A research program was initiated to study and isolate the factors responsible for scale effects in the tensile strength of graphite/epoxy composite laminates. Four layups were chosen with appropriate stacking sequences so as to highlight individual and interacting failure modes. Four scale sizes were selected for investigation including full scale size,

Tensile Strength of Carbon Fiber

open access: yesTehnički glasnik, 2022
Carbon fiber is a material with a vast area of utilization. When combined with a resin, we get a composite, which provides great mechanical properties, has low mass and can be utilized in many different applications. Carbon fiber cloth can be found in a wide range of forms and shapes, differing from weight to the shape of their weave.
