Diagnostic correlation of fiberoptic bronchoscopic biopsy and bronchoscopic cytology performed simultaneously

Diagnostic Cytopathology, 1992
AbstractThe reliability of bronchoscopic cytology relative to biopsy is controversial. Some still consider biopsy the definitive procedure. Comparative studies are few and limited in scope. Therefore, we compared simultaneously obtained biopsies and cytologies for 224 cases. One hundred and sixty‐six cases (74.6%) correlated completely.

Laryngeal mask airway for therapeutic fiberoptic bronchoscopic procedures

Journal of Cardiothoracic and Vascular Anesthesia, 1996
These cases illustrate the advantages of the laryngeal mask as compared with an endotracheal tube or oxygen face mask for selected patients undergoing therapeutic bronchoscopic procedures. The advantages include a larger internal diameter allowing easier passage of instruments, reduced work of breathing, lack of discomfort associated with insertion ...

Pleuroscopy with the Flexible Fiberoptic Bronchoscope

1981
The etiology of pleural effusion at times presents a diagnostic problem. closed pleural biopsy may fail to secure a diagnostic specimen due to the localised nature of a lesion. The fiberoptic bronchoscope has been used as a pleuroscope to visualize the pleura and to perform biopsy of pleural lesions (1–3).
