Adding functionality to fibre Bragg gratings

Proceedings of LEOS'94, 2002
Until recently, research on optical fibre Bragg gratings has focused mainly on optimizing the fabrication of "plain" gratings, i.e. gratings with uniform amplitude and period. Grating lengths have also been limited by the size and shape of the writing beam, precluding fabrication of more complex structures. It is possible, however, to use more advanced

Photosensitisation of Phosphosilicate Fibre Bragg Gratings

Photosensitivity and Quadratic Nonlinearity in Glass Waveguides: Fundamentals and Applications, 1995
Photolytic grating writing in phosphorous doped waveguides has recently been possible only with substantial hydrogen loading [1-3]. In [1] this has been demonstrated for phosphosilicate planar waveguides using 193nm whilst for aluminophosphosilicate fibres the writing wavelength was the 248nm KrF line [2]. We have recently demonstrated photosensitivity

Metal-coated Bragg grating reflecting fibre

Optical Fiber Technology, 2017
Abstract High-temperature optical fibres (OF) with fibre Bragg gratings (FBG) arrays written over a long length and in-line metal coating have been made for the first time. The optical parameters of the FBG arrays were tested by the optical frequency domain reflectometer (OFDR) method in a wide temperature range, demonstrating no degradation in ...

Packaging of optical Fibre Bragg Gratings

2001 Proceedings. 51st Electronic Components and Technology Conference (Cat. No.01CH37220), 2002
Fibre Bragg Gratings (FBGs) are all-fibre optical filters with applications in sensing and telecommunication systems. The packaging of FBGs offers many challenges to the manufacturer as stringent tolerances for wavelength stability of the filter over widely varying environmental operating conditions are required for state of the art Dense Wavelength ...

Dynamic studies of fibre Bragg gratings

SPIE Proceedings, 2010
The dynamic performance of standard fibre Bragg gratings (FBGs) is assessed. The interrogating system used for all the reported measurements was an all fibre optic Mach Zehnder interferometer which generated a fade free optical carrier to enable heterodyne processing to be exploited.

Fibre bragg gratings optical sensing technology

Smart Materials Bulletin, 2001
Abstract Fibre optic technology is a well established field in the world of smart structures. While optical communications systems date back as far as the late 1700s when the French engineer Claude Chappe invented the ‘optical telegraph’, advances in optical fibres did not really take off until Corning Glass Works (now Corning, Inc.) developed single-
