Intrinsic, multiplexable sensors for electric field strength using structural slow light in phase-shifted fibre Bragg gratings [PDF]
In this paper we demonstrate through simulation the potential for phase-shifted fibre Bragg gratings incorporating structural slow light to enable intrinsic reflection-mode point sensors for electric field or voltage.

An Optical Fibre Depth (Pressure) Sensor for Remote Operated Vehicles in Underwater Applications
A miniature sensor for accurate measurement of pressure (depth) with temperature compensation in the ocean environment is described. The sensor is based on an optical fibre Extrinsic Fabry-Perot interferometer (EFPI) combined with a Fibre Bragg Grating ...

Magnetically programmable fibre Bragg gratings
An attractive force between magnetic poles was utilised to produce significant wavelength shifts in fibre Bragg gratings. Programmable magnets were used to controllably strain and shift the wavelength of the grating by more than 15 nm. The wavelength tuning is fast and the device requires no power to maintain the shifted wavelengths.

Improved design of a DFB Raman fibre laser [PDF]
A Raman fibre laser based on phase shifted DFB structures is modelled for the first time. Using parameters of realistic devices, the model predicts low-threshold and highly-efficient laser output.

Fibre Bragg gratings fabrication in four core fibres [PDF]
Due to the limitation of the lens effect of the optical fibre and the inhomogeneity of the laser fluence on different cores, it is still challenging to controllably inscribe different fibre Bragg gratings (FBGs) in multicore fibres. In this article, we reported the FBG inscription in four core fibres (FCFs), whose cores are arranged in the corners of a

In situ method for power re-equalization of wavelength pulses inside of OCDMA codes [PDF]
A simple in-situ method to equalize power among individual wavelengths pulses representing two-dimensional wavelength-hopping time-spreading OCDMA code originally generated by a fibre Bragg grating-based OCDMA encoder is presented.
