Dietary fibre type influences protein and fat digestibility in dogs

open access: yesItalian Journal of Animal Science, 2022
Fibre can interfere with digestibility of fat by accelerating intestinal passage or by increasing chyme viscosity. Lecithin is an important emulsifier which can improve fat digestion.

Ovarian Sex Cord Stromal Tumors in Children and Adolescents—The European Standard Clinical Practice Recommendations

open access: yesPediatric Blood &Cancer, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT As part of the European Cooperative Study Group for Paediatric Rare Tumours initiative, we developed standard clinical practice guidelines for ovarian sex cord stromal tumors, based on comprehensive national and international cohort analyses, literature review, and a final expert consensus conference.

Gut microbiome and aging—A dynamic interplay of microbes, metabolites, and the immune system

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Age‐dependent shifts in microbial communities engender shifts in microbial metabolite profiles. These in turn drive shifts in barrier surface permeability of the gut and brain and induce immune activation. When paired with preexisting age‐related chronic inflammation this increases the risk of neuroinflammation and neurodegenerative diseases.

Bond strength in PVA fibre reinforced fly ash-based geopolymer concrete

open access: yesMagazine of Civil Engineering, 2021
This paper presents the effect of polyvinyl alcohol (PVA) fibre on the bond strength in geopolymer concrete. The main focus of the study is to investigate how bond performance is affected by varying the amount of PVA fibre content.

Residual tail twisting in ascidian larvae is stabilized by asymmetric myofibrils that resist bilateral symmetry restoration

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Ascidian Ciona larvae initially show strong clockwise tail twisting, which is largely corrected during development. However, a small residual twist remains. This study shows that organized helical myofibrils in tail muscles mechanically stabilize this residual asymmetry, preventing complete restoration of bilateral symmetry and revealing how embryos ...

Experimental Study on Axial Stress–Strain Behaviour of Steel Fibre-Reinforced Steel Slag Micropowder UHPC

open access: yesApplied Sciences, 2023
To investigate the toughening effect and stress–strain relationship of steel fibre-reinforced steel slag micropowder ultra-high-performance concrete (UHPC), nine sets of specimens with coarse aggregate and steel fibre contents were prepared for axial ...

Degradation mechanism of the von Willebrand factor A2 domain by nattokinase

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Nattokinase, a natto‐derived protease, exhibits potent antithrombotic effects. This study demonstrates that nattokinase directly cleaves the von Willebrand factor (vWF) A2 domain in vitro. Unlike the native regulator ADAMTS13, nattokinase degrades folded vWF independently of shear stress.

A study on the shear strength and dry-wet cracking behaviour of waste fibre-reinforced expansive soil

open access: yesCase Studies in Construction Materials, 2022
Expansive soils have typical expansion and contraction properties. Under the action of dry-wet cycles, the mechanical properties and cracking behaviour of expansive soil change significantly due to repeated expansion and contraction, which results in ...

Optimization of parameter settings to achieve improved tensile and impact strength of bamboo fibre composites [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Applied Research on Industrial Engineering, 2020
There is great interest in application of natural fibres, such as bamboo fibre, as reinforcement in composite production. Herein, to achieve high performance under optimum process conditions, experimental design and optimization techniques are used to ...

Microbiome−host proteostasis crosstalk—An emerging perspective on mechanisms and interventions toward healthy longevity

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Proteostasis and the gut microbiota play a key role in shaping host physiology. Microbiota‐derived metabolites, vitamins, and RNA modulate host proteostasis. Findings from model systems, including C. elegans, indicate microbes can either stabilize or disrupt host proteostasis.
