Stochastic Finite Element Modelling of Fibre-Metal Laminates [PDF]

open access: yes45th AIAA/ASME/ASCE/AHS/ASC Structures, Structural Dynamics & Materials Conference, 2004
Fibre-metal laminates are expected to have larger variations in material properties compared to traditional aerospace materials such as aluminium. Eects of such variations are not taken into account in current numerical models. This paper discusses the development of a stochastic nite element model with the existing deterministic solidlike shell (SLS ...

Fatigue initiation in fibre metal laminates

International Journal of Fatigue, 2006
Abstract It is assumed that fatigue crack initiation in Fibre Metal Laminates is determined by the stress cycles in the metal layers only. It is further assumed that if the stress cycles in the metal layers are known, the fatigue initiation life can be established using S – N data available for the given metal alloy.

The meaning of threshold fatigue in fibre metal laminates

International Journal of Fatigue, 2009
This paper discusses the meaning of threshold fatigue for fibre metal laminates under constant amplitude loading. A few experiments have been performed and the results are discussed in this paper.

Delamination buckling of fibre–metal laminates

Composites Science and Technology, 2001
A fibre–metal laminate is a composite of metal and fibre-reinforced prepreg layers. An example of such a material is Glare. It consists of alternating layers of aluminium and glass-fibre-reinforced prepreg. The material can be sensitive to delamination buckling, which occurs when a partially delaminated panel is subjected to a compressive force.

Recycling of aluminum from fibre metal laminates

Journal of Shanghai Jiaotong University (Science), 2012
Recycling of aluminum alloy scrap obtained from delaminated fibre metal laminates (FMLs) was studied through high temperature refining in the presence of a salt flux. The aluminum alloy scrap contains approximately mass fraction w(Cu) = 4.4%, w(Mg) = 1.1% and w(Mn) = 0.6% (2024 aluminum alloy).
