Low-velocity impact on fibre-metal laminates
2014Generating high-energy absorbing FML concepts is challenging because aluminium and composite failure mechanisms are acting concurrently during the impact process. Because the impact process involves energy transformation, an analytical energy balance method was used to assess the contribution of the material constituents in the low-velocity impact ...

Response of fibre metal laminates to blast loading
2011Fibre-metal laminates (FMLs) are hybrid structures comprising interleaved metal sheets and fibre reinforced polymer composites. In this work the performance of fibre metal laminated plates under blast loading is studied numerically. The FML panels are made of alternating layers of aluminium and glass fibre/polypropylene (GFRP) with different number of ...

Residual Stress Measurement on Fibre-metal-laminates
Journal of Neutron Research, 2003A comparison between different residual stress measurement methods on fibre reinforced metal laminates was made. The methods used were X-ray diffraction, neutron diffraction and strain measurement throughout destructively produced stress release. Good agreement was found between the different methods.

Note on the impact behaviour of fibre-metal laminates
International Journal of Impact Engineering, 2017Abstract Theoretical predictions are developed for the deformation and denting of fibre-metal laminates when subjected to low-velocity impact loads, or uniform blast loadings, and compared with available experimental test results. The rigid plastic material approximation with modifications to reflect the actual cross-section of a fibre-metal laminate

Numerical analysis of fibre-bridging in perforated fibre metal laminate
2008Fibre-metal laminates are a new class of structural used in aerospace, which consists of fibre-reinforced prepegs, sandwiched between metal aluminum sheets. A numerical analysis of the fibre-bridging mechanism in fibre-metal laminates has been carried out using the boundary element and finite element method.
