Coordinated Architectural and Chemical Reinforcement in the Crushing Mandible of a Soldier Termite
The crushing mandible of a soldier termite withstands substantial biting loads despite lacking mineral. Its cuticle is partitioned: convex teeth pair hardness and zinc enrichment with aligned chitin fibers for contact durability, while stiffer concave regions between teeth carry bending loads.

An investigation of the failure mechanisms of thermoplastic composites at various rates of strain and temperatures [PDF]
Includes bibliographical references .The focus of this project is on the deformation behaviour of thermoplastic composites. The materials used were polypropylene and polyamide resins with glass fibres and talc as fillers. These materials were provided by

Chitin‐Derived Carbon‐Metal Functional Materials
Functional carbon materials are synthesized from combination of biopolymer (chitin) and iron precursors. The resultant material exhibits superior surface area and adsorptive properties compared to carbon materials synthesized directly from pure chitin.

Bone‐Inspired Recyclable Composites for Damage‐Tolerant Circular Materials
Bone‐inspired architected composites are developed by combining osteon‐like reinforcements with a recyclable Elium thermoplastic matrix. The hierarchical architecture redirects cracks and promotes energy dissipation, while enabling recovery of intact, aligned, load‐bearing reinforcement units that retain their original stiffness, revealing a route ...

Measuring fibre orientation in sisal fibre-reinforced, injection moulded polypropylene
S.54-64In commercial injection moulding simulation software only tools for glass fibre-reinforced thermoplastics exist, but not for natural fibres. In our research, we adapted a simulation software for sisal fibre-reinforced polypropylene.

A sequential dual‐alignment strategy independently programs the orientation of conductive metal‐organic framework (c‐MOF) microrods and liquid crystals within a composite film. This approach creates an asymmetric bilayer structure that enables precise, multi‐responsive actuation.

Model-Based Bootstrapping on Classified Tensor Morphologies: Estimation of Uncertainty in Fibre Orientation and Probabilistic Tractography. [PDF]
In this study, fast and clinically feasible model-based bootstrapping algorithms using a geometrically constrained two-tensor diffusion model are employed for estimating uncertainty in fibre-orientation. Voxels are classified based on tensor morphologies
