A bistable morphing composite using viscoelastically generated prestress [PDF]

open access: yes, 2015
Elastically generated prestress within polymeric composites can be used to create bistable morphing structures; i.e. they can ‘snap through’ between one of two states.

Linking neurogenesis, oligodendrogenesis, and myelination defects to neurodevelopmental disruption in primary mitochondrial disorders

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Mitochondrial remodeling shapes neural and glial lineage progression by matching metabolic supply with demand. Elevated OXPHOS supports differentiation and myelin formation, while myelin compaction lowers mitochondrial dependence, revealing mitochondria as key drivers of developmental energy adaptation.

Residual tail twisting in ascidian larvae is stabilized by asymmetric myofibrils that resist bilateral symmetry restoration

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Ascidian Ciona larvae initially show strong clockwise tail twisting, which is largely corrected during development. However, a small residual twist remains. This study shows that organized helical myofibrils in tail muscles mechanically stabilize this residual asymmetry, preventing complete restoration of bilateral symmetry and revealing how embryos ...

Temperature dependent characterization of optical fibres for distributed temperature sensing in hot geothermal wells

open access: yes, 2012
This study was performed in order to select a proper fibre for the application of a distributed temperature sensing system within a hot geothermal well in Iceland. Commercially available high temperature graded index fibres have been tested under in-situ

Plug-in fibre-to-fibre coupler

open access: yesElectronics Letters, 1974
A technique for coupling multimode fibres together has been demonstrated. The coupling technique exhibits high efficiency, involves no handling of bare fibre, and requires only a simple plugging-in of connectors.

Plecstatin inhibits hepatocellular carcinoma tumorigenesis and invasion through cytolinker plectin

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
The ruthenium‐based metallodrug plecstatin exerts its anticancer effect in hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) primarily through selective targeting of plectin. By disrupting plectin‐mediated cytoskeletal organization, plecstatin inhibits anchorage‐dependent growth, cell polarization, and tumor cell dissemination.

In vitro micropropagation in Boehmeria nivea to generate safe planting materials for large-scale cultivation

open access: yesCzech Journal of Genetics and Plant Breeding, 2018
An efficient in vitro micropropagation protocol has been developed using nodal explants of ramie (Boehmeria nivea), with maximum shoots (42) per explant in 5 passages (passage duration: 21 days) on Murashige and Skoog medium supplemented with 2.0 mg/l 6 ...

Infrared laser sampling of low volumes combined with shotgun lipidomics reveals lipid markers in palatine tonsil carcinoma

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Nanosecond infrared laser (NIRL) low‐volume sampling combined with shotgun lipidomics uncovers distinct lipidome alterations in oropharyngeal squamous cell carcinoma (OPSCC) of the palatine tonsil. Several lipid species consistently differentiate tumor from healthy tissue, highlighting their potential as diagnostic markers.
