Modal Theory of Phase‐Modulated and Frequency‐Shifting Ring Cavities

open access: yesAdvanced Photonics Research, Volume 6, Issue 12, December 2025.
We present a theoretical and experimental characterization of the optical modes of dispersionless ring cavities with phase modulators or frequency shifters. Their response to arbitrary modulation acts as a filter for phase‐modulated modes that determine the optical output of passive resonators and lasers. This provides a general framework for analyzing

The Role of Operating Temperature on Pore‐Scale Gas Transport in Polymer Electrolyte Membrane Electrolyzers

open access: yesAdvanced Science, Volume 12, Issue 44, November 27, 2025.
This study clarifies the critical relationship between operating temperature and two‐phase flow behavior in polymer electrolyte membrane (PEM) electrolyzers by investigating pore‐scale gas bubble transport in the anode porous transport layer. Higher temperatures (80 °C vs 40 °C) result in a lower total bubble volume fraction and smaller bubble ...

Carbon Fiber Oxidation in 4D

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, Volume 37, Issue 42, October 23, 2025.
The oxidation of porous carbon fiber heat shield material at high temperatures is imaged using time‐resolved synchrotron X‐ray microtomography. Resolving the interplay between species diffusion and carbon‐oxygen reaction rate reveals spatially and temporally varying degradation across oxidation regimes, with profound implications for in‐depth material ...

Extending the Range of Sizes of Monodisperse Core‐Shell Hydrogel Capsules from Composite Jet Breakup by Combined Electrical and Mechanical Actuation

open access: yesAdvanced Science, Volume 12, Issue 38, October 13, 2025.
We present a microfluidic approach combining electrical and mechanical actuation to improve control over liquid jet breakup and droplet formation. By adjusting excitation frequency and applying an electric field, coalescence is reduced and droplet uniformity is enhanced.

Neuromyelitis Optica Mimicking Multiple Sclerosis: A Case Report and a Comprehensive Review of the Literature

open access: yesClinical Case Reports, Volume 13, Issue 10, October 2025.
Post‐gadolinium enhancement of the spinal cord seen in NMO. ABSTRACT Neuromyelitis optica spectrum disorder (NMOSD) may mimic other neurological conditions, including multiple sclerosis (MS). We report a 25‐year‐old woman with hypothyroidism and depression who presented with progressive quadriparesis.

Arbitrary thickness profile metrology of low‐Z and monolithic material components with a single X‐ray projection

open access: yesJournal of Synchrotron Radiation, Volume 32, Issue 5, Page 1310-1318, September 2025.
A thickness metrology method based on X‐ray phase contrast imaging is proposed. By precisely retrieving the phase shift of X‐rays passing through the sample, high‐precision arbitrary thickness profile measurement can be achieved with a single X‐ray projection. A measurement case of a microlens array is presented to demonstrate the effectiveness of this

Dispersive X‐ray absorption spectroscopy using independent grazing‐incidence focusing and convexly bent Bragg‐crystal dispersing optics

open access: yesJournal of Synchrotron Radiation, Volume 32, Issue 4, Page 1068-1084, July 2025.
A dispersive X‐ray absorption spectroscopy instrument has been developed and implemented at the Advanced Photon Source's Advanced Spectroscopy Beamline. The instrument uses a convexly bent Bragg‐crystal analyzer to disperse a polychromatic X‐ray beam and independent Kirkpatrick–Baez mirrors for focusing, thereby providing a simple and flexible method ...

Engineered Hydrogels for Organoid Models of Human Nonalcoholic Fatty Liver Disease

open access: yesAdvanced Science, Volume 12, Issue 22, June 12, 2025.
Nonalcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) is characterized by lipid accumulation and extracellular matrix stiffening. An in vitro NAFLD model is developed using engineered hydrogels (G′ ≈ 1–6 kPa) and iPSC‐derived hepatic organoids. It is demonstrated that higher stiffness can increase lipid droplet accumulation, fibrosis, and metabolic dysregulation ...

Opinion and report of the French Agency for Food, Environmental and Occupational Health & Safety (ANSES) on the assessment of the impact of fox population dynamics on public health

open access: yesFood Risk Assess Europe, Volume 3, Issue 2, April 2025.
ABSTRACT The Red Fox (Vulpes vulpes) can be hunted as a game species. It may also be listed as a “species likely to cause damage” (ESOD – the acronym in French), for public health reasons among others. Conversely, benefits linked to the presence of foxes are also put forward, such as the predation of rodents carrying zoonotic agents.

Operando X‐Ray Tomoscopy of Laser Beam Welding

open access: yesAdvanced Science, Volume 12, Issue 9, March 6, 2025.
An advanced way of laser beam guidance in the welding of die‐cast aluminum by beam modulation is investigated in 3D over time using X‐ray tomoscopy. New insights into the interaction of the keyhole with the forming porosity are gained. These dynamic changes are quantified with a temporal resolution of 10 ms and a reduction in porosity and surface ...
