H-alpha features with hot onsets III. Fibrils in Lyman-alpha and with ALMA [PDF]
In H-alpha most of the solar surface is covered by dense canopies of long opaque fibrils, but predictions for quiet-Sun observations with ALMA have ignored this fact. Comparison with Ly-alpha suggests that the large opacity of H-alpha fibrils is caused by hot precursor events.

Catheter Ablation for Atrial Fibrillation with Heart Failure
Background Mortality and morbidity are higher among patients with atrial fibrillation and heart failure than among those with heart failure alone. Catheter ablation for atrial fibrillation has been proposed as a means of improving outcomes among patients

Cryoablation or Drug Therapy for Initial Treatment of Atrial Fibrillation.
BACKGROUND Guidelines recommend a trial of one or more antiarrhythmic drugs before catheter ablation is considered in patients with atrial fibrillation. However, first-line ablation may be more effective in maintaining sinus rhythm. METHODS We randomly

Designing for Degradation: Transient Devices Enabled by (Nano)Cellulose
Recent progress in transient devices enabled by (nano)cellulosic materials is reviewed. Transiency mechanisms, advantages of nanocelluloses, and a suite of applications are discussed. A circular thinking approach coupled with life cycle assessment is applied to critically revisit the potential, advantages, and challenges of nanocellulose‐enabled ...

Abstract Objectives The objective of this study is to present our initial experience with a novel parenchymal clamp (NPC) developed to allow partial nephrectomies (PN) to be performed without whole kidney ischaemia. We compare patients who underwent PN with the NPC with those undergoing standard PNs. Methods The NPC applies pressure only to the portion

On fibrils and field lines: The nature of H$α$ fibrils in the solar chromosphere [PDF]
Observations of the solar chromosphere in the line-core of the \Halpha\ line show dark elongated structures called fibrils that show swaying motion. We performed a 3D radiation-MHD simulation of a network region, and computed synthetic \Halpha\ images from this simulation to investigate the relation between fibrils and the magnetic field lines in the ...

Fibril elongation mechanisms of HET-s prion-forming domain: Topological evidence for growth polarity [PDF]
The prion-forming C-terminal domain of the fungal prion HET-s forms infectious amyloid fibrils at physiological pH. The conformational switch from the non-prion soluble form to the prion fibrillar form is believed to have a functional role, since HET-s in its prion form participates in a recognition process of different fungal strains.

Postoperative Atrial Fibrillation [PDF]
Postoperative atrial fibrillation (POAF) is common among surgical patients and associated with a worse outcome. Pathophysiology of POAF is not fully disclosed, and several perioperative factors could be involved. Direct cardiac stimulation from perioperative use of catecholamines or increased sympathetic outflow from volume loss/anaemia/pain may play a

Moisture‐Dependent Vibrational Dynamics and Phonon Transport in Nanocellulose Materials
Uptake of water in cellulose play an important role in modulating the structure and phonon transport. This study reports how moisture‐dependent structural modification relates to the vibrational dynamics and phonon transport and scattering of nanocellulose using inelastic neutron scattering and wide angle X‐ray scattering.

Mechanical stretching of amyloid Abeta11-42 fibrils using steered molecular dynamics [PDF]
Mechanical strength of amyloid beta fibrils has been known to be correlated with neuronal cell death. Here, we resorted to steered molecular dynamics (SMD) simulations to mechanically stretch a single S-shape amyloid beta Abeta11-42 dodecamer fibril in vacuum.
