A systematic literature review of the management of chronic venous ulcers with autologous fibrin matrix with or without growth factors [PDF]

open access: yes, 2021
8 p.Aim: To evaluate available evidence for the effective management of venous leg ulcers with fibrin matrix with or without growth factors. Methods: A systematic review of the literature was performed to evaluate the use of fibrin matrices with or ...

Synergistic Effect of Keratinocyte Transplantation and Epidermal Growth Factor Delivery on Epidermal Regeneration

open access: yesCell Transplantation, 2005
Both keratinocyte transplantation and epidermal growth factor (EGF) delivery stimulate epidermal regeneration. In this study, we hypothesized that the combined therapy of keratinocyte transplantation and EGF delivery accelerates epidermal regeneration ...

Covalent Cross-linking of Fibronectin to Fibrin Is Required for Maximal Cell Adhesion to a Fibronectin-Fibrin Matrix [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Biological Chemistry, 1997
In a blood clot, fibrin and plasma fibronectin (pFN) are covalently cross-linked by activated factor XIII (factor XIIIa) to form pFN-fibrin multimers. To determine the functional significance of covalent pFN-fibrin interactions, we have developed an in vitro model which allows the incorporation of recombinant FN (recFN) molecules into a covalently ...

Activity-dependent interdomain dynamics of matrix metalloprotease-1 on fibrin [PDF]

open access: yesScientific Reports, 2020
Abstract The roles of protein conformational dynamics and allostery in function are well-known. However, the roles that interdomain dynamics have in function are not entirely understood. We used matrix metalloprotease-1 (MMP1) as a model system to study the relationship between interdomain dynamics and activity because MMP1 has ...

Three-Dimensional Culture of Human Nucleus Pulposus Cells in Fibrin Clot: Comparisons on Cellular Proliferation and Matrix Synthesis with Cells in Alginate

open access: yes, 2011
Regeneration of nucleus pulposus (NP) tissue may stop or reverse early intervertebral disk (IVD) degeneration. Cellular proliferation and matrix synthesis can be promoted by incorporation of cells and bioscaffolds.

3D Fibrin Gels Direct Extracellular Matrix Production in Intervertebral Disc Cells under Hypoxic Conditions

open access: yesGlobal Spine Journal, 2014
Introduction Fibrin gels are considered to be a promising biomaterial for tissue engineering because of its role as a “physiological scaffold” in tissue regeneration.

Advantages of Fibrin Polymerization Method without the Use of Exogenous Thrombin for Vascular Tissue Engineering Applications

open access: yesBiomedicines, 2022
Fibrin is widely used in vascular tissue engineering. Typically, fibrin polymerization is initiated by adding exogenous thrombin. In this study, we proposed a protocol for the preparation of completely autologous fibrin without the use of endogenous ...

Polyphosphate nanoparticles enhance the fibrin stabilization by histones more efficiently than linear polyphosphates

open access: yesPLoS ONE, 2022
Introduction Beyond the three-dimensional fibrin network, the mechanical and lytic stability of thrombi is supported by the matrix of neutrophil extracellular traps (NETs) composed of polyanionic DNA meshwork with attached proteins including polycationic

Partial depletion of plasminogen activator inhibitor‐1 decreases subcutaneous fat cell hypertrophy and liver cholesterol in high‐fat‐fed female mice

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Obesity raises blood levels of PAI‐1, a protein linked to metabolic dysfunction‐associated steatotic liver disease in people with obesity. In female mice fed a high‐fat diet, partially lowering PAI‐1 led to smaller subcutaneous fat cells and lower liver cholesterol, without changing body weight or insulin sensitivity.
