Fibro-Osseous and Other Lesions of Bone in the Jaws

Fibroosseous lesions in the jaws have similar histologic and radiographic features. Despite their similarity, management varies significantly. In this article, common fibroosseous lesions and key radiographic features are described. Many of the fibroosseous lesions are diagnosed radiographically, without performing histologic examinations.

Bone scintigraphy of fibro-osseous lesions of the jaw

Abstract A review of bone scintigraphy and its potential uses and limitations in evaluation of the facial skeleton is presented. The use of bone scans for the evaluation of two cases of fibro-osseous lesions is described. Bone scintigraphy in these cases ruled out other areas of bone involvement and confirmed radiographic findings.

Fibro-osseous lesion of rib.

A 3 x 4 cm homogeneous opacity was incidentally detected over the first rib at routine chest radiography. Radionuclide bone scan identified a hot spot, not excluding malignancy and excision of the rib revealed fibro-osseous lesion. A review of the literature showed 12 cases of this extremely rare lesion.
