A Novel Bis-Coumarin Targets Multiple Tyrosine Kinases of Key Signaling Pathways in Melanoma and Inhibits Melanoma Cell Survival, Proliferation, and Migration [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2020
Melanoma is one of the most dangerous skin malignancies due to its high metastatic tendency and high mortality. Activation of key signaling pathways enforcing melanoma progression depends on phosphorylation of tyrosine kinases, and oxidative stress. We here investigated the effect of the new bis-coumarin derivative (3,5-DCPBC) on human melanoma cell ...

On subcellular distribution of the zinc finger 469 protein (ZNF469) and observed discrepancy in the localization of endogenous and overexpressed ZNF469

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
ZNF469 regulates the expression of genes encoding extracellular matrix proteins. Endogenous ZNF469 is predominantly cytoplasmic, while in transfected cells, it forms aggregates reminiscent of biomolecular condensates, located mainly in the nucleus. These condensates exhibit overlapping staining with proteasomes and are also associated with the mitotic ...

Investigating the Relationship of Anthropometric Indices with Kidney Function and Serum Levels of Fibroblast Growth Factor-23 and Matrix Gamma Carboxyglutamate Protein in Kidney Transplant Patients [PDF]

open access: yesArmaghane Danesh Bimonthly Journal, 2022
Background & aim: Considering that overweight and obesity in transplant patients are considered as a risk factor for the occurrence of metabolic disorders, heart diseases and reduced kidney function, therefore, the purpose of the present study was to ...

Matrigel inhibits elongation and drives endoderm differentiation in aggregates of mouse embryonic stem cells

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Stem cell‐based embryo models (SCBEMs) are valuable to study early developmental milestones. Matrigel, a basement membrane matrix, is a critical substrate used in various SCBEM protocols, but its role in driving stem cell lineage commitment is not clearly defined.

Circulating Sclerostin Levels Are Decreased in Patients with Endogenous Hypercortisolism and Increase after Treatment [PDF]

open access: yes, 2012
CONTEXT: Increased bone fragility is a frequent complication of hypercortisolism due predominantly to suppression of bone formation. Sclerostin is an osteocyte-produced negative regulator of bone formation, which is up-regulated by glucocorticoids in ...

Differential response of idiopathic sporadic tumoral calcinosis to bisphosphonates

open access: yesIndian Journal of Endocrinology and Metabolism, 2014
Context: Tumoral calcinosis is a disorder of phosphate metabolism characterized by ectopic calcification around major joints. Surgery is the current treatment of choice, but a suboptimal choice in recurrent and multicentric lesions. Aims: To evaluate the

The impact of frailty syndrome on skeletal muscle histology: preventive effects of exercise

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Frailty syndrome exacerbates skeletal muscle degeneration via increased ECM deposition and myofiber loss. This study, using a murine model, demonstrates that endurance exercise attenuates these histopathological alterations, preserving muscle integrity. Findings support exercise as a viable strategy to counteract frailty‐induced musculoskeletal decline

The micromechanics of fluid-solid interactions during growth in porous soft biological tissue [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2007
In this paper we address some modelling issues related to biological growth. Our treatment is based on a recently-proposed, general formulation for growth within the context of Mixture Theory (Journal of the Mechanics and Physics of Solids, 52, 2004, 1595--1625).
