Liver Fibrosis and NAS scoring from CT images using self-supervised learning and texture encoding [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2021
Non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) is one of the most common causes of chronic liver diseases (CLD) which can progress to liver cancer. The severity and treatment of NAFLD is determined by NAFLD Activity Scores (NAS)and liver fibrosis stage, which are usually obtained from liver biopsy.

Liver fibrosis [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Clinical Investigation, 2005
Liver fibrosis is the excessive accumulation of extracellular matrix proteins including collagen that occurs in most types of chronic liver diseases. Advanced liver fibrosis results in cirrhosis, liver failure, and portal hypertension and often requires liver transplantation.

Targeting Cardiac Fibrosis with Engineered T cells

open access: yesNature, 2019
Fibrosis is observed in nearly every form of myocardial disease1. Upon injury, cardiac fibroblasts in the heart begin to remodel the myocardium by depositing excess extracellular matrix, resulting in increased stiffness and reduced compliance of the ...

Activation of SIRT1 Reduces Renal Tubular Epithelial Cells Fibrosis in Hypoxia Through SIRT1‐FoxO1‐FoxO3‐Autophagy Pathway

open access: yesAdvanced Biology, EarlyView.
Hypoxia promotes the epithelial‐mesenchymal transition (EMT) of renal tubular epithelial cells via the SIRT1‐FoxO1‐FoxO3‐autophagy pathway, thereby resulting in the fibrosis of renal tubular epithelial cells. Activation of SIRT1 or induction of autophagy inhibits this process, alleviating hypoxia‐induced fibrosis.

Anatomically-Informed Deep Learning on Contrast-Enhanced Cardiac MRI for Scar Segmentation and Clinical Feature Extraction [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2020
Visualizing disease-induced scarring and fibrosis in the heart on cardiac magnetic resonance (CMR) imaging with contrast enhancement (LGE) is paramount in characterizing disease progression and quantifying pathophysiological substrates of arrhythmias.
