A Microphysiological Interface of Skeletal Myobundles and Inflamed Adipose Tissue for Recapitulating Muscle Dysfunction in an Obese Microenvironment

open access: yesAdvanced Healthcare Materials, EarlyView.
A human cell‐based microphysiological system integrates engineered muscle tissues with an inflamed adipose–macrophage niche to model obese microenvironment‐induced muscle dysfunction. Muscle contraction is quantified by pillar deflection coupled with computational stiffness estimation. Secretome and transcriptomic profiling reveal inflammation‐mediated

Fluorescent Polymeric Nanofibers as Ratiometric Multiplexed Skin Sensors of pH and Oxygen

open access: yesAdvanced Healthcare Materials, EarlyView.
Fluorescent polymeric nanofibers and nanorods are produced as ratiometric sensors of two important physiological parameters: pH and oxygen. They operate by dual Forster resonance energy transfer from large number of energy donor dyes to limited number of two distinct energy acceptors, enabling simultaneous sensing of pH and oxygen.

Detection and characterization of atherosclerotic fibrous caps with T2-weighted MR.

open access: greenAJNR. American journal of neuroradiology, 1998
We assessed the performance of T2-weighted MR imaging in detecting atherosclerotic fibrous caps and in depicting their integrity.Twenty atherosclerotic lesions removed by carotid endarterectomy were imaged on a 1.5-T system using T2-weighted spin-echo sequences. The MR images were reviewed independently by four blinded interpreters for fibrous caps and

Metronidazole‐Loaded Cyclodextrin Nanogels for Antibacterial Therapy and Microbiota Regulation in Periodontitis

open access: yesAdvanced Healthcare Materials, EarlyView.
A methacrylamide β‐cyclodextrin‐based nanogel (MACD nGel) is developed to load the antimicrobial drug Metronidazole (MNZ) for topical delivery for the treatment of periodontitis. It is demonstrated that cyclodextrin nanogel (nGel) loaded with metronidazole provides an efficient drug delivery route but also has potential clinical applications and offers

High-density lipoprotein cholesterol level is associated with fibrous cap thickness in acute coronary syndrome.

open access: yesCirculation Journal, 2013
BACKGROUND Although low high-density lipoprotein cholesterol (HDL-C) level has been reported as an independent risk factor for coronary artery disease, few studies addressed the direct relationship between the presence of thin-cap fibroatheroma (TCFA ...

Compression‐Tension‐Asymmetry and Stiffness Nonlinearity of Collagen‐Matrigel Composite Hydrogels

open access: yesAdvanced Healthcare Materials, EarlyView.
Self‐assembled collagen hydrogel matrices are widely used in tissue engineering applications. These matrices stiffen and contract laterally under tension due to fiber alignment and soften and collapse under compression due to fiber buckling. It is demonstrated that filler materials, such as Matrigel, linearize the mechanical behavior of collagen ...

Highly Sensitive Oxidation‐Resistant Degradable Janus Piezoresistive Electronic Skin for Sustainable Wearable Electronics

open access: yesAdvanced Healthcare Materials, EarlyView.
This study presents a highly sensitive, oxidation‐resistant, biocompatible, and degradable Janus piezoresistive electronic skin for sustainable wearable electronics. The electronic skin exhibits sensitive and stable response across a broad pressure range, exceptional oxidation resistance, and Janus wettability.

Bioimpedance real-time charazterization of neointimal tissue inside stents [PDF]

open access: yes, 2017
It is hereby presented a new approach to monitor restenosis in arteries fitted with a stent during an angioplasty. The growth of neointimal tissue is followed up by measuring its bioimpedance with Electrical Impedance Spectroscopy (EIS).

A Human‐Based Skin‐Lymphoreticular Model‐on‐Chip to Emulate Inflammatory Skin Conditions

open access: yesAdvanced Healthcare Materials, EarlyView.
A human‐based lymphoreticular (LR) model was developed through guided self‐assembly and integrated in a skin‐lymphoreticular co‐culture in a microfluidic organ‐on‐chip to mimic interactions between skin and its draining lymph nodes. The human‐based skin‐lymphoreticular model resembles a minimally functional unit that allows to study interactions ...
