Imaging and analysis of microcalcifications and lipid/necrotic core calcification in fibrous cap atheroma. [PDF]

open access: yesInt J Cardiovasc Imaging, 2015
The presence of microcalcifications (µCalcs) >5 µm within the cap of human fibroatheroma has been shown to produce a 200-700% increase in peak circumferential stress, which can transform a stable plaque into a vulnerable one, whereas µCalcs < 5 µm do not appear to increase risk. We quantitatively examine the possibility to distinguish caps with µCalcs >

Enhancing CoFe Catalysts with V2CTX MXene‐Derived Materials for Anion Exchange Membrane Electrolyzers

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
MXene dervied CoFe composites show increased initial Oxygen Evolution Reaction (OER) activity compared to the pure CoFe and MXene in an Anion Exchange Membrane device. Vanadium vacancies in the MXene plays a role in increased OER activity and hinders Fe leaching in the AEM device over using the pure V2C MXene as a support material for the CoFe ...

Anionic Citrate‐Based 3D‐Printed Scaffolds for Tunable and Sustained Orthobiologic Delivery to Enhance Tissue Regeneration

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
A potent anionic citric acid‐based 3D‐printed scaffold is developed for the sustained and controlled release of orthobiologics to enhance orthopedic therapeutic efficacy. Comprehensive in vivo studies demonstrated effective bone fusion and high safety at a low dose of BMP‐2 delivered by the system, establishing it as a promising platform for safe ...

Machine Learning Guided Design of Nerve‐On‐A‐Chip Platforms with Promoted Neurite Outgrowth

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Compared to labor‐intensive trial‐and‐error experimentation, a machine learning (ML)‐guided workflow, incorporating cell viability assays, data augmentation, ensemble modeling, and model interpretation, is developed to accelerate nerve‐on‐a‐chip optimization and uncover data‐driven design principles.

Near‐Infrared Emitting Lanthanide Catecholate Giant Single Crystals – Morphology Control and Photon Down‐Conversion

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Controlled syntheses of lanthanide coordination polymers based on the dihydroxybenzoquinone (DHBQ) organic linker afforded large single crystals of Ln‐DHBQ CPs (Ln = Yb, Nd). A novel structural variant of Yb‐DHBQ is identified by means of single crystal diffraction analysis.

Engineering Topographical Cues to Enhance Neural Regeneration in Spinal Cord Injury: Overcoming Challenges and Advancing Therapies

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Spinal cord injury (SCI) poses significant challenges for regeneration due to a series of secondary injury mechanisms. How to use biomaterial approach to target the failed regeneration after SCI remains a critical challenge. This review systematically evaluates current strategies to optimize biomaterial topographies for neurite outgrowth, axonal ...

Self‐Assembled Heterosymmetric Structure with Tunable Polarization Optics for Reversible Matrix Encryption

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Sustainable films with heterosymmetric structures, harmoniously integrating symmetry and asymmetry, are fabricated using cellulose nanocrystals and hydrophilic nanolignin via evaporation‐induced self‐assembly, which exhibit excellent multiple polarization optical properties.
