Ultra-wide sensing range plasmonic refractive index sensor based on a two-dimensional circular-hole grating engraved on a gold film

open access: yesResults in Physics, 2021
We propose a simple structure with a two-dimensional (2D) circular-hole grating engraved on a gold film for ultra-wide range plasmonic refractive index (RI) sensing.

Thermoelectric performance of weakly coupled granular materials

open access: yes, 2009
We study thermoelectric properties of inhomogeneous nanogranular materials for weak tunneling conductance between the grains, g_t < 1. We calculate the thermopower and figure of merit taking into account the shift of the chemical potential and the ...

Synthesis and high temperature thermoelectric properties of Yb0.25Co4Sb12-(Ag2Te)x(Sb2Te3)1-x nanocomposites

open access: yesFrontiers in Chemistry, 2015
Nanocomposites are becoming a new paradigm in thermoelectric study: by incorporating nanophase(s) into a bulk matrix, a nanocomposite often exhibits unusual thermoelectric properties beyond its constituent phases.

Refractive-index sensing with ultra-thin plasmonic nanotubes

open access: yes, 2012
We study the refractive-index sensing properties of plasmonic nanotubes with a dielectric core and ultra-thin metal shell. The few-nm thin metal shell is described by both the usual Drude model and the nonlocal hydrodynamic model to investigate the ...

Inpatient Food Insecurity and Pediatric Hematology Oncology Hospitalization Outcomes

open access: yesPediatric Blood &Cancer, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Children with cancer and blood disorders are at risk for food insecurity (FI). We aimed to describe the association of inpatient food insecurity (IFI) and hospitalization outcomes among patients admitted to the pediatric hematology oncology service. Of 325 caregivers screened for IFI, 60 (18.6%) screened positive.

The newfound relationship between extrachromosomal DNAs and excised signal circles

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Extrachromosomal DNAs (ecDNAs) contribute to the progression of many human cancers. In addition, circular DNA by‐products of V(D)J recombination, excised signal circles (ESCs), have roles in cancer progression but have largely been overlooked. In this Review, we explore the roles of ecDNAs and ESCs in cancer development, and highlight why these ...

Figure of merit for photonic differentiators

open access: yesOptics Express, 2012
We introduce a universal figure of merit to evaluate the processing speed (operation bandwidth) performance of arbitrary-order optical differentiators. In particular, we define the maximum-to-minimum bandwidth ratio (MMBR) as a main figure of merit of these devices, which essentially informs about the broadness of the acceptable input pulse bandwidth ...

Sequence determinants of RNA G‐quadruplex unfolding by Arg‐rich regions

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We show that Arg‐rich peptides selectively unfold RNA G‐quadruplexes, but not RNA stem‐loops or DNA/RNA duplexes. This length‐dependent activity is inhibited by acidic residues and is conserved among SR and SR‐related proteins (SRSF1, SRSF3, SRSF9, U1‐70K, and U2AF1).
