Plasmon induced transparency and waveguide mode based optical biosensor for self-referencing sensing

open access: yesSensors International
In this paper, we present and investigate a novel approach for self-referenced sensing using a multilayer structure in Kretschmann configuration. The obtained results show that the structure can support two modes, plasmon-induced transparency and ...

High thermoelectric figure of merit ZT > 1 in SnS polycrystals

open access: yesJournal of Materiomics, 2020
Eco-friendly tin sulfide (SnS) has attracted increasing attention in the thermoelectric community because of its elemental abundance and analogous crystal structure to SnSe as a new thermoelectric material.

Posterior Cortical Atrophy in the Asia‐Pacific: A Report From the PCA Asian Workgroup

open access: yesAnnals of Clinical and Translational Neurology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Objective Posterior Cortical Atrophy (PCA) is a distinct dementia syndrome primarily affecting spatial abilities and visual processing. It is associated with degeneration in the posterior part of the brain. PCA is subclassified into PCA‐pure and PCA‐plus syndromes based on consensus criteria.

A Depolarizing Leak in Sodium Bicarbonate Cotransporter NBCe1 Causes Brain Edema

open access: yesAnnals of Clinical and Translational Neurology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Objectives SLC4A4 encodes electrogenic sodium bicarbonate cotransporter NBCe1, prominently expressed in kidney and brain. Recessive loss‐of‐function variants in SLC4A4 cause proximal renal tubular acidosis, no brain edema. In the brain, NBCe1 is expressed by astrocytes, where it regulates pH and mediates astrocyte volume changes.

Interdependent figure-of-merit software development [PDF]

open access: yes
This program was undertaken in order to understand the complex nature of interdependent performance in space missions. At the first step in a planned sequence of progress, a spread sheet program was developed to evaluate different fuel/oxidizer ...

Polaritonic figure of merit of plane structures

open access: yesOptics Express, 2017
Based on the ability of plane structures to simultaneously optimize the propagation, confinement, and energy of surface plasmon-polaritons or surface phonon-polaritons, we develop the polaritonic figure of merit Z = βRΛ2/δ, where βR, Λ and δ are the longitudinal wave vector, propagation length, and penetration depth, respectively.

Evaluating a Pragmatic Strength Alternative for Frailty Measurement and Assessing Its Predictive Capacity Against Established Frailty Instruments in Rheumatoid Arthritis

open access: yesArthritis Care &Research, EarlyView.
Objective Frailty occurs prematurely in rheumatoid arthritis (RA) and is associated with poor health outcomes. We compared the performance of four frailty instruments, including a pragmatic alternative measure using chair sit‐to‐stand (STS), and evaluated their abilities to predict poor health outcomes.

Doping dependence of thermopower and thermoelectricity in strongly correlated systems

open access: yes, 2006
The search for semiconductors with high thermoelectric figure of merit has been greatly aided by theoretical modeling of electron and phonon transport, both in bulk materials and in nanocomposites. Recent experiments have studied thermoelectric transport

Building a Framework for Sexual and Reproductive Health Care in the Rheumatology Context: Content and Approaches

open access: yesArthritis Care &Research, EarlyView.
People with systemic autoimmune and rheumatic diseases (SARDs) are at higher risk than the general population of experiencing adverse pregnancy and perinatal outcomes such as preeclampsia, intrauterine growth restriction, and maternal and/or fetal death.
