Carbohydrate metabolism in Brugia pahangi (Nematoda: Filarioidea)

International Journal for Parasitology, 1986
Carbohydrate metabolism in Brugia pahangi (Nematoda:Filarioidea). International Journal for Parasitology16: 465–469. Adult B. pahangi have a complete glycolytic sequence and tricarboxylic acid cycle. The activities of the glycolytic enzymes are extremely high, but their relative activities are similar to those found in other glycolytic tissues.

Apodemus sylvaticus, a new host for Acanthocheilonema viteae (Nematoda: Filarioidea)

International Journal for Parasitology, 1991
Susceptibility of Apodemus sylvaticus and A. agrarius to infection with Acanthocheilonema viteae was compared with that of hamsters and jirds. Microfilaremia in A. sylvaticus was first noted on day 52 post-infection (p.i.) and lasted during the course of the study (up to day 150 p.i.). Maximum microfilaremic levels (female worm basis) of A. sylvaticus [

Histology of adultLitomosoides carinii (Nematoda: Filarioidea)

Zeitschrift fr Parasitenkunde Parasitology Research, 1986
The histology of male and female Litomosoides carinii was studied in serial sections. The body wall of the female worm consists of a rather thin cuticle, very extended lateral hypodermal chords and small sectors of shallow coelomyarian muscle cells. In the female worm an intestinal lumen is found, which is filled with material throughout the worm's ...

Onchocerciasis (Nematoda: Filarioidea) in bovine leg joints

Canadian Journal of Zoology, 1977
Eleven cases of bovine onchoceriasis associated with mineralized subcutaneous nodules in the area of the knee joint are reported from Saskatchewan and Manitoba. The morphology of recovered portions of nematode cuticle is not identical with that of either Onchocerca gutturosa or O.

The isolation and immunogenicity of the cuticle ofDipetalonema viteae (Filarioidea)

Zeitschrift fr Parasitenkunde Parasitology Research, 1985
The cuticle of the filaria Dipetalonema viteae was isolated by sonication in 1% sodiumdodecylsulphate (SDS) and in a mixture of 1% SDS and 5% B-mercaptoethanol (BME). Sonication in SDS removed all internal parts and left the cuticle intact; this was verified by light- and electronmicroscopy.

Dermatitis associated with microfilariae (Filarioidea) in 10 dogs

Veterinary Dermatology, 1999
Dermatitis associated with microfilariae of a nematode of the superfamily Filarioidea was diagnosed in 10 dogs from the western United States. Clinically, lesions were single or multiple papules and plaques with alopecia, scarring, erythema, ulceration, or crusting. Eight dogs had lesional pruritus.

Fine structure of adultLitomosoides carinii (Nematoda: Filarioidea)

Zeitschrift fr Parasitenkunde Parasitology Research, 1986
The fine structure of the body wall and the intestine of male and female Litomosoides carinii was studied in sections through the middle and posterior regions of the worms. In the sublateral cells of the female hypodermis the organelles are arranged in regular layers. The zone with the basal labyrinth is the most prominent layer.

The detoxification of xenobiotic compounds by Onchocerca gutturosa (Nematoda: Filarioidea)

International Journal for Parasitology, 1989
In common with other helminths O. gutturosa appears to lack cytochrome P450 linked phase 1 enzymes and so its ability to metabolize aromatic nuclei may be severely restricted. The parasite could reduce azo- but not nitro-compounds and low levels of epoxide hydrolase activity were also detected.

Fecundity ofLitomosoides carinii (Nematoda, Filarioidea) in vivo and in vitro

Zeitschrift fr Parasitenkunde Parasitology Research, 1986
Several parameters concerning the reproduction of Litomosoides carinii were assessed using quantitatively infected cotton rats (Sigmodon hispidus). The course of embryogenesis from the fertilization of eggs to the delivery of the first microfilariae was observed by daily autopsies during prepatency.
