MiF: Mitigating the Intra-file Fragmentation in Parallel File System
2011 International Conference on Parallel Processing, 2011Parallel file systems have been broadly deployed in large scale data centers, supporting a wide range of applications across a variety of industries. Unfortunately, most parallel file systems suffer from the intra-file fragmentation which is the disk performance killer.

Resurrection: A Carver for Fragmented Files
2014The recovery of deleted files is an important task frequently carried out by professionals in digital forensics and data recovery. When carried out without information from the file system, this process is called file carving. The techniques implemented in today’s file carvers are mostly sufficient for non-fragmented files.

Textual File Fragments Dataset and Code
2019In this study, we present a dataset that contains file fragments of five textual file formats: Binary file format for Word 97-Word 2003 (DOC), Microsoft Word open XML format (DOCX), portable document format (PDF), rich text file (RTF), and standard text document (TXT).

Dynamic storage fragmentation and file deterioration
IEEE Transactions on Software Engineering, 1986As a result of insertions and deletions, a file tends to be cluttered with deleted records which are physically present. These unwanted records cause fragmentation within the file and give rise to additional access overhead because they have to be skipped over during processing.

Fragmentation Degree Research Based on File’s Layout
Applied Mechanics and Materials, 2011Numerous resource allocating and releasing will cause fragmentation which will seriously affect the I/O performance of file systems. One method to solve this problem is file defragmentation. This paper focuses on fragmentation detection, the key part of the file defragmentation.

Identification of image fragments for file carving
World Congress on Internet Security (WorldCIS-2013), 2013Recovering images intact is an important process in digital forensics, as they may represent primary evidences in crime cases such as child pornography. Due to file syetems' fragmentation mechanisms, images may be split into several fragments on a physical storage.

File fragment type detection by neural network
2018 26th Signal Processing and Communications Applications Conference (SIU), 2018File type detection is vital for data recovery, cyber attack detection and, and digital forensic studies. There are extension based, knowledge of file header, and content based methods for file type detection. Extension based and knowledge of file header based methods aren't robust methods since file header and extension can be easily changed.

Benchmarking Tertiary Storage Systems with File Fragmentation
2002In this paper we compare efficiency of two proposed storage management systems with the efficiency obtained for the commercial solution. The developed prototypes make use of index-based retrieving of file fragments, therefore they can be useful for multimedia databases.
