Cytoplasm affects grain weight and filled-grain ratio in indica rice [PDF]
Abstract Background Cytoplasmic effects on agronomic traits -involving cytoplasmic and nuclear genomes of either different species or different cultivars - are well documented in wheat but have seldom been demonstrated in rice (Oryza sativa L.).

Predicting the pore-filling ratio in lumen-impregnated wood [PDF]
Lumen impregnation, unlike most other wood modification methods, is typically assessed by the pore-filling ratio (PFR) (i.e. the fraction of luminal porosity filled) rather than by weight percentage gain (WPG). During lumen impregnation, the impregnants act on the voids in the wood rather than on the solid mass (e.g.

This study attempted to fill epoxy, a widely used industrial material, with pumice, a cheap volcanic rock, in order to form a composite material. The objective was to evaluate the worth of the pumice and improve the mechanical properties of the epoxy. Composite samples with no filler, 10%, 20%, or 30% filler were produced.

Factors influencing ratios of filled pauses at clause boundaries in Japanese
Speech disfluencies have been studied as clues to human speech production mechanisms. Major constituents are assumed to be principal units of planning and disfluencies are claimed to occur when speakers have some trouble in planning such units. We tested two hypotheses about the probability of disfluencies by examining the ratios of filled pauses ...
