A Transient Method Using Liquid Crystal for Film Cooling Over a Convex surface

open access: yesInternational Journal of Rotating Machinery, 2001
In order to explore the effect of blowing ratio on film cooling over a convex surface, the present study adopts the transient liquid crystal thermography for the film cooling measurement on a straight circular hole configuration.

MOFs and COFs in Electronics: Bridging the Gap between Intrinsic Properties and Measured Performance

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Metal‐organic frameworks (MOFs) and covalent organic frameworks (COFs) hold promise for advanced electronics. However, discrepancies in reported electrical conductivities highlight the importance of measurement methodologies. This review explores intrinsic charge transport mechanisms and extrinsic factors influencing performance, and critically ...

Microtextured Surfaces for Turbine Blade Impingement Cooling [PDF]

open access: yes
Gas turbine engine technology is constantly challenged to operate at higher combustor outlet temperatures. In a modern gas turbine engine, these temperatures can exceed the blade and disk material limits by 600 F or more, necessitating both internal and ...

Curved film cooling admission tube [PDF]

open access: yes, 1980
Effective film cooling to protect a wall surface from a hot fluid which impinges on or flows along the surface is provided. A film of cooling fluid having increased area is provided by changing the direction of a stream of cooling fluid through an angle ...

Effect of Film Cooling on Turbine Capacity

open access: yesJournal of Engineering for Gas Turbines and Power, 2009
This paper describes a method that allows the effect of film cooling on the capacity of a turbine to be computed. The model is based on fundamental cooling performance parameters and is applicable to situations in which a mainstream flow is displaced by a partially mixed film cooling layer.

In Situ Study of Resistive Switching in a Nitride‐Based Memristive Device

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
In situ TEM biasing experiment demonstrates the volatile I‐V characteristic of MIM lamella device. In situ STEM‐EELS Ti L2/L3 ratio maps provide direct evidence of the oxygen vacancies migrations under positive/negative electrical bias, which is critical for revealing the RS mechanism for the MIM lamella device.

Effect of swirl and hot streak on unsteady thermal performances of film-cooled high pressure turbine rotor

open access: yesCase Studies in Thermal Engineering
Advanced aero-engines widely employ lean-burn combustors to comply with strict NOx emission regulations. Lean-burn combustor exit condition is characterized with swirl and hot streak (HS).

Three-dimensional turbulent-mixing-length modeling for discrete-hole coolant injection into a crossflow [PDF]

open access: yes
Three dimensional mixing length models of a flow field immediately downstream of coolant injection through a discrete circular hole at a 30 deg angle into a crossflow were derived from the measurements of turbulence intensity.

Programmable DNA‐Peptide Hybrid Nanostructures for Potent Neutralization of Multiple Influenza a Virus Subtypes

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
A multivalent antiviral platform based on honeycomb‐shaped DNA nanostructures (HC–Urumin) is developed to enhance the potency and breadth of the host defense peptide Urumin. Through spatially patterned trimeric presentation, HC–Urumin disrupts influenza A virus entry, improves cell viability, and reduces disease severity in vivo‐offering a modular and ...
