Effect of Film Cooling Hole Area Ratio on Adiabatic Film Cooling Effectiveness Over a Flat Plate
ASME 2013 Gas Turbine India Conference, 2013In the present study the film cooling performance is analyzed for a flat plate model with different hole area ratios. Here “Area Ratio” is defined as the ratio between the cross sectional area of the hole at inlet to the exit of the hole. The area ratios which are considered for analyzing are 1, 2 and 3.

Effects of chemical reaction caused by cooling stream on film cooling effectiveness
Journal of Thermal Science, 2012With the increase of inlet temperature of gas turbines, the benefits by using the conventional methods are likely to approach their limits. Therefore, it is essential to study novel film cooling methods for surpassing these current limits. Based on the theory of heat transfer enhancement, a film cooling method with chemical reaction by cooling stream ...

Influence of Film Cooling Holes Partial Blockage on Cooling Effectiveness
Volume 11: Heat Transfer and Thermal Engineering, 2021Abstract To study the effect of blockage on the film cooling performance, film cooling plate models with cylindrical hole, compound hole, and fan-shaped hole under the all-round blockage, leading-edge blockage, and trailing-edge blockage were established respectively. The anti-blockage performance of three kinds of the hole was compared.

On the Film Cooling Effectiveness Controversy
Volume 1A: Gas Turbines, 1979A relationship between isothermal and adiabatic film cooling effectiveness has been derived. Data from the open literature have been used to validate this relationship. This effectively uncouples short duration techniques from the concept of isothermal effectiveness.

The effect of unsteadiness on film cooling effectiveness
33rd Aerospace Sciences Meeting and Exhibit, 1995Abstract : A unique feature of turbine rotor blade film cooling is the main flow unsteadiness caused by the upstream stator vanes. The combined effect of the vane inviscid flow field and the trailing edge wake results in a rapidly changing external pressure at the film cooled blade surface.

Convex Curvature Effects on Film Cooling Adiabatic Effectiveness
Volume 3B: Heat Transfer, 2013Surface curvature is known to have significant effects on film cooling performance, with convex curvature inducing increased film effectiveness and concave curvature causing decreased film effectiveness. Generally, these curvature effects have been presumed to scale with 2r/d at the film cooling hole location, where r is the radius of curvature and d ...

Effect of Vortex Generators on Film Cooling Effectiveness
Journal of Turbomachinery, 2015Film cooling is often adopted, where coolant jets are ejected to form a protective layer on the surface against the hot combustor gases. The bending of jets in crossflow results in counter rotating vortex pair (CRVP), which is a cause for high jet lift-off and poor film cooling effectiveness in the near field.

Effect of Stagnation Regions on Film Cooling Effectiveness
Volume 4: Turbo Expo 2007, Parts A and B, 2007Over the last decades, researchers have investigated many aspects of film cooling. The present study investigates the impact of stagnation region created by a downstream airfoil on endwall film cooling effectiveness. Experimental measurements are presented for a single row of cylindrical holes inclined at 35° with hole length to diameter ratio, L/D = 7.

Research on cooling effectiveness in stepped slot film cooling vane
Journal of Thermal Science, 2016As one of the most important developments in air cooling technology for hot parts of the aero-engine, film cooling technology has been widely used. Film cooling hole structure exists mainly in areas that have high temperature, uneven cooling effectiveness issues when in actual use.

Effect of film cooling/regenerative cooling on scramjet engine performances
Journal of Propulsion and Power, 1994Film cooling was modeled to allow performance prediction of scramjet engine design. The model was based on experimental results of the compressible mixing layer for the vicinity of the injection slot, and on analytical results of the turbulent boundary layer in the region far from the slot.
