Effects of Jet Geometries on Film-cooling Effectiveness

Numerical simulations based on control volume method and RNG k-e turbulence model were performed to investigate the flow and heat transfer characteristics of the flat plate film cooling, squirting out from a cone-shaped jet orifice with a diffuser angle of γ to be 300 and a round-shaped jet orifice respectively.

The film cooling is investigated experimentally and numerically for gas turbine blade cooling. Film cooling performance is vital for safe operation of the blades. By calculating the film cooling effectiveness, the effect of wall roughness through a turbulence promoter inside the cooling hole is evaluated.
