Slot film cooling ? The effect of separation angle

Acta Mechanica, 1994
Previous studies of slot film cooling have mainly concentrated on a flow geometry so arranged that the slot is flush in the containing wall. It is known that when the total pressure head of the injected flow is less than the free stream head, separation from the front of the slot is tangential to the wall (the so-called ‘lid’ effect).

Enhancement of Film Cooling Effectiveness Using Dean Vortices

Journal of turbomachinery, 2019
Film cooling technology is widely used in gas turbines. With the additive manufacturing anticipated in the future, there will be more freedom in film cooling hole design. Exploiting this freedom, the present authors tried using curved holes to generate

Numerical Study on Effects of Density Ratio on Film Cooling Flow Structure and Film Cooling Effectiveness

Volume 5A: Heat Transfer, 2017
To understand film cooling flow fields on a gas turbine blade, this paper reports a series of large-eddy simulations of an inclined round jet issuing into a crossflow. Simulations were performed at constant momentum ratio conditions, IR = 0.25, 0.5, 1.0 and Reynolds number, Re = 15,300, based on the crossflow velocity and the film cooling hole diameter.

Effects of Showerhead Cooling on Turbine Vane Suction Side Film Cooling Effectiveness

Heat Transfer: Volume 3, 2000
Abstract The process of film cooling is known to severely disturb the boundary layer around a turbine airfoil. Since most film-cooled airfoils have more than one injection station, the flow field approaching a row of film cooling holes could be altered by the presence of an upstream cooling station.

Study of Film Cooling Effectiveness on a Double-Walled Effusion-Cooled Turbine Blade in a High-Speed Flow Using Pressure Sensitive Paint

Heat Transfer, 2019
A detailed analysis of film cooling performance on a double-walled effusion-cooled blade is essential for both the coolant consumption optimization and assessment of the film to offer the desired levels of the turbine blade protection.

Effect of Film Cooling Hole Area Ratio on Adiabatic Film Cooling Effectiveness Over a Flat Plate

ASME 2013 Gas Turbine India Conference, 2013
In the present study the film cooling performance is analyzed for a flat plate model with different hole area ratios. Here “Area Ratio” is defined as the ratio between the cross sectional area of the hole at inlet to the exit of the hole. The area ratios which are considered for analyzing are 1, 2 and 3.

Effects of chemical reaction caused by cooling stream on film cooling effectiveness

Journal of Thermal Science, 2012
With the increase of inlet temperature of gas turbines, the benefits by using the conventional methods are likely to approach their limits. Therefore, it is essential to study novel film cooling methods for surpassing these current limits. Based on the theory of heat transfer enhancement, a film cooling method with chemical reaction by cooling stream ...

Influence of Film Cooling Holes Partial Blockage on Cooling Effectiveness

Volume 11: Heat Transfer and Thermal Engineering, 2021
Abstract To study the effect of blockage on the film cooling performance, film cooling plate models with cylindrical hole, compound hole, and fan-shaped hole under the all-round blockage, leading-edge blockage, and trailing-edge blockage were established respectively. The anti-blockage performance of three kinds of the hole was compared.

Experimental and Numerical Study on the Effect of Fan-Shaped Hole Configuration on Film Cooling Effectiveness

Heat Transfer, 2019
Film cooling technique has been widely applied to protect gas turbine blades from high temperature combustion gases. In this study, to improve the cooling effectiveness of fan-shaped film cooling holes, the effect of the main shape parameters on the ...
