Jazz in British new wave cinema - An interview with Sir John Dankworth [PDF]

open access: yes, 2006
Sir John Dankworth, the eminent English composer, conductor, bandleader and jazz musician has written in many genres, including composing over 20 film scores. Of these, Saturday Night and Sunday Morning (1960), The Criminal (1960), The Servant (1963) and

Quantum Field Theory of Vortices in Superfluid Films

open access: yes, 1997
A quantum field theory, consisting of the effective action of sound waves linearly coupled to a Chern-Simons term, is proposed to describe the dynamics of vortices in a superfluid film at the absolute zero of temperature.Comment: 8 pages, 7 figures, to ...

Smart Face Masks as Wearable Respiratory Sensors: A Review of Sensor Technologies, Materials, and Future Directions

open access: yesAdvanced Healthcare Materials, EarlyView.
This review highlights recent advances in smart face masks that actively monitor breathing. By integrating humidity, gas, temperature, pressure, strain, and triboelectric sensors, these masks track key respiratory parameters in real time. The article summarizes sensor mechanisms, compares performance across studies, and discusses challenges and future ...

Genhør med dogme 95 [Dogme 95 reheard]

open access: yesMedieKultur: Journal of Media and Communication Research, 2010
Assuming that the 10 Danish Dogma films can be considered genre films, the article analyses the use of sound and music in these films. The “Vow of Chastity” proposed by the Dogma directors specifies that sound and image must never be produced separately,

Mapping Nanoscale Protein‐Corona Kinetics of DoE‐Optimized Perfluorocarbon Encapsulated‐PLGA Nanoparticles by In Situ, Time‐Resolved Synchrotron SAXS

open access: yesAdvanced Healthcare Materials, EarlyView.
A two‐phase workflow (OFAT screening followed by central composite design) maps how processing variables tune PFCE‐PLGA nanoparticle size, dispersity, surface charge, loading, and 19F‐MRI signal. In situ, time‐resolved synchrotron SAXS tracks albumin‐corona growth on intact dispersions and reveals PFCE‐dependent adsorption pathways.

Spectrum of third sound cavity modes on superfluid $^3$He films

open access: yes, 2003
We report theoretical calculations of the spectrum of third sound modes for a cylindrically symmetric film of superfluid $^3$He, and compare these results with experimental data for the mode frequencies and amplitude spectrum of surface waves of ...

Nanotherapies for Atherosclerosis: Targeting, Catalysis, and Energy Transduction

open access: yesAdvanced Healthcare Materials, EarlyView.
Atherosclerosis management is hindered by poor drug targeting and plaque heterogeneity. Nanotechnology overcomes these barriers via three core strategies: (1) target‐engineered nanocarriers that achieve lesion‐specific precision via ligand modification, biomimetic camouflage, stimuli‐responsive release, and self‐propelling nanomotors; (2) catalytic ...

Horror film genre typing and scene labeling via audio analysis

open access: yes, 2003
We examine localised sound energy patterns, or events, that we associate with high level affect experienced with films. The study of sound energy events in conjunction with their intended affect enable the analysis of film at a higher conceptual level ...

Self‐Assembled Inorganic Nanomembrane Tubes: Rolled‐Up Piezoelectrics for Microacoustic Wave‐Based Actuators and Sensors

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
This study demonstrates a self‐assembly process to generate free‐standing piezoelectric nanomembranes, forming ultracompact microtubular acoustic wave sensors and actuators. The miniaturized 3D piezoelectric platform reported in this work can be applied in telecommunication, energy harvesting, and acoustofluidics. Moreover, the 3D self‐assembly can add
