Unlocking the potential of tumor‐derived DNA in urine for cancer detection: methodological challenges and opportunities

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Urine is a rich source of biomarkers for cancer detection. Tumor‐derived material is released into the bloodstream and transported to the urine. Urine can easily be collected from individuals, allowing non‐invasive cancer detection. This review discusses the rationale behind urine‐based cancer detection and its potential for cancer diagnostics ...

One-Sided Box Filter for Edge Preserving Image Smoothing [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2021
Image smoothing is a fundamental task in signal processing. For such task, box filter is well-known. However, box filter can not keep some features of the signal, such as edges, corners and the jump in the step function. In this paper, we present a one-sided box filter that can smooth the signal but keep the discontinuous features in the signal.

Circulating tumor cells: advancing personalized therapy in small cell lung cancer patients

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Small cell lung cancer (SCLC) is an aggressive form of lung cancer that spreads rapidly to secondary sites such as the brain and liver. Cancer cells circulating in the blood, “circulating tumor cells” (CTCs), have demonstrated prognostic value in SCLC, and evaluating biomarkers on CTCs could guide treatment decisions such as for PARP inhibitors ...

Generalized Selection Weighted Vector Filters

open access: yesEURASIP Journal on Advances in Signal Processing, 2004
This paper introduces a class of nonlinear multichannel filters capable of removing impulsive noise in color images. The here-proposed generalized selection weighted vector filter class constitutes a powerful filtering framework for multichannel signal ...

A comparative study of circulating tumor cell isolation and enumeration technologies in lung cancer

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Lung cancer cells were spiked into donor blood to evaluate the recovery rates of the following circulating tumor cell (CTC) enrichment technologies: CellMag™, EasySep™, RosetteSep™, Parsortix® PR1, and Parsortix® Prototype systems. Each method's advantages and disadvantages are described.

ECG Signals Processing using Adaptive Linear Filters [PDF]

open access: yesInternational Journal of Trend in Scientific Research and Development, 2017
Electrocardiogram ECG signal is the electrical recording of heart activity. The Electrocardiogram ECG reflects the activities and the attributes of the human heart and reveals very important hidden information. The information is extracted by means of ECG signal analysis to gain insights that are very crucial in explaining and identifying various ...

Simple Method for Perfect Reconstruction QMF Filter Design [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2022
The purpose of this work is the design of FIR QMF (Quadrature Mirror Filters) filters of perfect reconstruction and odd number of coefficients (even order). By design, these filters will have linear phase and integer delay. These filter pairs have many applications in wavelet transforms and other multi-frequency decompositions.

Cell‐free and extracellular vesicle microRNAs with clinical utility for solid tumors

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Cell‐free microRNAs (cfmiRs) are small‐RNA circulating molecules detectable in almost all body biofluids. Innovative technologies have improved the application of cfmiRs to oncology, with a focus on clinical needs for different solid tumors, but with emphasis on diagnosis, prognosis, cancer recurrence, as well as treatment monitoring.
