Natural Convection Correlations of Circular Finned Tube Heat Exchanger
ASME-JSME-KSME 2011 Joint Fluids Engineering Conference: Volume 1, Symposia – Parts A, B, C, and D, 2008An experimental study has been conducted on natural convection heat transfer for seventeen kinds of circular finned tube heat exchanger. The transient method was used to obtain the heat transfer coefficient. The experimental data were presented and their characteristics lengths were discussed.

Fin Erosion in Aquaculture and Natural Environments
Reviews in Fisheries Science, 2003Fin erosion occurs when the fins of afflicted fish become degraded from a variety of sources, which can include abrasion with rough surfaces, fin damage from aggressive encounters between fish, nutritional deficiencies, and bacterial infection. Fin erosion has become a concern in fisheries management because of aesthetic and fish survival issues ...

Laminar Natural Convection in Internally Finned Horizontal Annuli
Numerical Heat Transfer, Part A: Applications, 1993An analysis is made of the laminar natural convection in two internally finned horizontal annuli. The governing equations were solved numerically by a control-volume-based finite difference method. Information about the flow patterns and temperature distributions is presented through velocity vectors, streamlines, and isotherm plots.

Natural convection heat transfer from a finned sphere
International Journal of Heat and Mass Transfer, 2015Abstract Natural convection heat transfer from a finned sphere has been studied numerically in both laminar (10 5 ⩽ Ra ⩽ 10 8 ) and turbulent (10 10 ⩽ Ra ⩽ 10 12 ) regimes. Computations are done for the Nusselt number ( Nu ) by varying the fin-height-to-sphere-diameter ratio ( H / D ) and the fin-pitch-to-sphere-diameter ratio ( P / D ) in the ...

Thermal Analysis of Natural Convection Porous Fins
Transport in Porous Media, 2006This work introduces a simple method of analysis to study the performance of porous fins in a natural convection environment. The method is based on using energy balance and Darcy’s model to formulate the heat transfer equation. The thermal performance of porous fins is then studied for three types of fins: long fin, finite-length fin with insulated ...

Three-dimensional natural convection in finned cubical enclosures
International Journal of Heat and Fluid Flow, 2007Abstract Three-dimensional natural convection of air in a cubical enclosure with a fin on the hot wall is numerically investigated for Rayleigh numbers of 103–106. The fin, with a thickness of 1/10 of the cavity side, is placed horizontally on the hot wall. The solid to fluid thermal conductivity ratio (Rk) and the fin width are varied.

Natural Convection Heat Transfer from Fractal-Like Fins
Journal of Thermophysics and Heat Transfer, 2013The results of a computational investigation into the performance of fractal-like fins under conditions where natural convection is the sole heat transfer mechanism are presented. Fractal patterns such as the Sierpinski carpet have previously been shown to increase surface area significantly, compared to classical geometries, while also reducing mass ...

Natural Convection Fin Performance Using Fractal-Like Geometries
Journal of Thermophysics and Heat Transfer, 2012Fractal geometries are shown to increase surface area significantly with patterns such as the Sierpinski carpet providing the potential for mass reduction. Two fractal geometries were used in this study, the modified Koch snowflakeandtheSierpinskicarpet.Thisstudyexamines finperformanceforthebaselinecases(atriangular finand a square fin) relative to the

Natural Convective Conjugate Cooling Mechanism in Vertical Fins
Journal of Thermophysics and Heat Transfer, 2003An analysis is presented of the conjugate free convective heat transfer from a vertical, thermally thin fin heated from above to the surrounding fluid. An estimate is presented of the thermal penetration length over which the temperature of a very long fin would decrease from its maximum value at the top to the ambient temperature of the fluid.
