Backstepping Control of Nonlinear Roll Motion for a Trawler with Fin Stabilizer

open access: yesInternational Journal of Maritime Engineering, 2017
A backstepping control design procedure for nonlinear fin roll control of a trawler is presented in this paper. A roll equation consisting of linear and nonlinear damping and restoring moment on the roll response is expressed. Flow analyses are carried out for a scaled model of trawler type fishing vessel including fin stabilizers on both sides of the ...

Range optimization of a fin stabilized projectile

22nd Atmospheric Flight Mechanics Conference, 1997
This paper investigates the use of controllable canards mounted on a fin stabilized field artillery projectile with the purpose of extending range. The flight control system pitch command is used as the independent control variable. Canard deflection angles are determined by passing interpolated pitch commands through a mixer.

Fin and rudder hybrid stabilization system

IFAC Proceedings Volumes, 2004
Abstract Modern roll stabilization system, namely fin, anti-roll tank and rudder action are used respectively or in combination on most passengers and naval ships. This paper proposes the advanced rudder roll stabilization control system with fin control.

Stability of Boiling on Annular Fin Surfaces

Heat Transfer Engineering, 2008
A theoretical investigation was conducted to understand the stability of boiling on annular fin surfaces with different boundary conditions. Lyapunov's function was derived for boiling on annular fin surfaces; its characteristics near the steady distribution are particularly investigated.

Disturbance to the Launch of Fin-Stabilized Projectiles

Journal of Spacecraft and Rockets, 1980
The sabot discard from a gun launched, fin-stabilized projectile is examined from the time of shot ejection until the round enters undisturbed flight. Trajectory perturbations due to muzzle blast, fin shadowing, mechanical contact, and aerodynamic interaction are evaluated and a relative ranking is determined.

Stabilized Fin-Line FET-Oscillators

13th European Microwave Conference, 1983, 2006
The design and realization of stable fin-line FET-oscillators is described. Several examples of fundamental mode oscillators through X-band and Ku-band are given. A Ka-band second harmonic FET-oscillator is reported.

Extending Fin Concept for a 105-mm Fin Stabilized Projectile

2011
Abstract : An extending fin provides a solution to the cartridge case and stability constraints on a 105-mm fin stabilized projectile. The design has promising application for an M913 or M1 projectile as a base kit stability solution. With further design, analysis, and testing, a base kit solution with extending fins can mature into a field-ready ...
