Factors influencing farmers' willingness to provide private land for a coordinated flood mitigation scheme in the Drin basin

open access: yesJournal of Flood Risk Management
Flooding poses a significant and recurring threat in numerous regions. The adverse impacts of flooding can be mitigated through risk sharing, such as insurance or risk reduction.

Support‐Controlled Reaction Pathways via Dynamic Sulfur‐Mediated Interfaces for Selective Urea Electrolysis

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Sulfur‐doped graphitized carbon nanofibers act as adaptive catalyst–support platforms, enabling dynamic sulfur‐mediated reconstruction and strong metal–support interactions. This unique behavior enhances catalyst stability and controls reaction pathways, achieving highly selective urea oxidation (∼92% N2) coupled with efficient hydrogen evolution ...

What guidance exists to support patient partner compensation practices? A scoping review of available policies and guidelines

open access: yesHealth Expectations
Background An integral aspect of patient engagement in research, also known as patient and public involvement, is appropriately recognising patient partners for their contributions through compensation (e.g., coauthorship, honoraria).

Effect of Optical Illumination on Bubble Nanodomains

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Stable surface‐confined nanoscale bubble domains are created and manipulated in PMN‐PT single crystals. Under above‐bandgap illumination, these bubble nanodomains remain unchanged. However, upon illumination cessation, they rapidly expand to switch the entire crystal surface, due to the accumulation of a large reservoir of electrons at the crystal ...

Interface Engineering via Sb2Te3 Deposition Enables High‐Performance SWCNT Film Thermoelectrics

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
SWCNTs are promising for flexible thermoelectrics but suffer from low performance. Here, cold‐pressed SWCNT films combined with deposited Sb2Te3 form engineered interfaces that enhance charge transport and energy filtering. The composite achieves a high power factor (25.82 µW cm−1 K−2) and delivers a power density of 3 mW cm−2 at ΔT = 40 K, with ...

Compensation in the Financial Sector: Are All Bankers Superstars? [PDF]

open access: yesSSRN Electronic Journal, 2010
Based on a survey among French engineers, I find that employees in the financial sector are highly paid. I also find large pay differences within the sector and that a large share of compensation is variable. I consider three potential models accounting for these facts: a model of superstars (Rosen, 1981), a model of compensating wage differential ...

Tuning Mechanoreceptor Signaling Enhances the Adjuvant Effect of Biomaterial Vaccines

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Matrix stiffness serves as an independent immunological signal in biomaterial vaccines. Stiffer microporous hydrogel vaccines enhance dendritic cell maturation and migration to draining lymph nodes, promote T follicular helper cell expansion through Yap/Taz signaling, and increase antigen‐specific antibody production.

Polarization‐Dependent Synaptic‐Like Electro‐Optical Response in Ferroelectric Nematic Liquid Crystals

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Ferroelectric nematic liquid crystals (FNLCs) offer fast, tunable polarization and low‐voltage operation but suffer from poor polarization retention at zero field. Semiconductor‐modified FNLCs enhance polarization retention and exhibit short‐ and long‐term electro‐optical responses, while also supporting spike‐type signal integrations.
