Fine-Scale Genetic Mapping Using Independent Component Analysis
IEEE/ACM Transactions on Computational Biology and Bioinformatics, 2008The aim of genetic mapping is to locate the loci responsible for specific traits such as complex diseases. These traits are normally caused by mutations at multiple loci of unknown locations and interactions. In this work, we model the biological system that relates DNA polymorphisms with complex traits as a linear mixing process.

THE FINE LINE BETWEEN MAPPING AND MAP MAKING
Cartographica, 1993Brian Harley's efforts to re-form the history and theory of cartography were doomed by his inability to free himself from the idealism and representationlism that have passed for thinking in the field. Nor did his sturdy British empiricism help him understand the Continental thinkers who dazzled and inspired him.

Fine-Grained Location-Based Sensor Mapping
Proceedings of the Second International Conference on Internet-of-Things Design and Implementation, 2017Achieving an optimized control schema for building automation systems relies on the accurate collection of environmental modalities and accurate modeling of how the environment reacts to changes. Recent advances in indoor localization coupled with the influx of smart devices have created a unique and efficient method of collecting these modalities in ...

Fine‐scale mapping of disease loci
GeneScreen, 2000AbstractWe review the issues involved in the fine‐scale mapping of disease loci via allelic association. We argue that it is vital to properly account for uncertainty about the genealogy of the disease locus and founding haplotypes at the surrounding markers: we sketch how this might be done in a Bayesian framework using Markov chain Monte Carlo ...
