Fine Root Traits across Different Root Orders and Their Associations with Leaf Traits in 15 Co-Occurring Plant Species from the Desert–Oasis Transition Zone in the Hexi Corridor, Gansu Province, China

open access: yesPlants
Fine root traits embody trade-offs between resource acquisition and conservation in plants. Yet, the differentiation of these traits across root orders, the existence of a root economics spectrum (RES) spanning these orders, and their linkage with leaf ...

Double butterfly spectrum for two interacting particles in the Harper model

open access: yes, 1996
We study the effect of interparticle interaction $U$ on the spectrum of the Harper model and show that it leads to a pure-point component arising from the multifractal spectrum of non interacting problem.

Revealing the structure of land plant photosystem II: the journey from negative‐stain EM to cryo‐EM

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Advances in cryo‐EM have revealed the detailed structure of Photosystem II, a key protein complex driving photosynthesis. This review traces the journey from early low‐resolution images to high‐resolution models, highlighting how these discoveries deepen our understanding of light harvesting and energy conversion in plants.

From fine-grained properties to broad principles for gradual argumentation: A principled spectrum

open access: yesInternational Journal of Approximate Reasoning, 2019
The study of properties of gradual evaluation methods in argumentation has received increasing attention in recent years, with studies devoted to various classes of frameworks/ methods leading to conceptually similar but formally distinct properties in ...

The (Glg)ABCs of cyanobacteria: modelling of glycogen synthesis and functional divergence of glycogen synthases in Synechocystis sp. PCC 6803

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We reconstituted Synechocystis glycogen synthesis in vitro from purified enzymes and showed that two GlgA isoenzymes produce glycogen with different architectures: GlgA1 yields denser, highly branched glycogen, whereas GlgA2 synthesizes longer, less‐branched chains.

Magnetic spectrum of trigonally warped bilayer graphene - semiclassical analysis, zero modes, and topological winding numbers

open access: yes, 2012
We investigate the fine structure in the energy spectrum of bilayer graphene in the presence of various stacking defaults, such as a translational or rotational mismatch.

Origin of the ankle in the ultra-high energy cosmic ray spectrum and of the extragalactic protons below it

open access: yes, 2015
The sharp change in slope of the ultrahigh energy cosmic ray (UHECR) spectrum around 10^18.6 eV (the ankle), combined with evidence of a light but extragalactic component near and below the ankle and intermediate composition above, has proved exceedingly
