The Fine Structure of the Comparative [PDF]
AbstractThe paper provides evidence for a more articulated structure of the comparative as compared with the one in Bobaljik (2012). We propose to split up Bobaljik's cmpr head into two distinct heads, C1 and C2. Looking at Czech, Old Church Slavonic and English, we show that this proposal explains a range of facts about suppletion and allomorphy.

FINE STRUCTURE OF CHROMOSOMES [PDF]
Electron micrographs of staminate hair cells of Tradescantia reflexa indicate that early prophase chromosomes are composed of a number of helically arranged chromonemata. Favorable preparations reveal as many as 64 identifiable subsidiary strands, assumedly arranged as intertwined pairs to form a hierarchy of pairs of pairs. The helices of the smallest

THE FINE STRUCTURE OF NEURONS [PDF]
1. Thin sections of representative neurons from intramural, sympathetic and dorsal root ganglia, medulla oblongata, and cerebellar cortex were studied with the aid of the electron microscope. 2. The Nissl substance of these neurons consists of masses of endoplasmic reticulum showing various degrees of orientation; upon and between the ...

Fine Structure of a Fine Machine [PDF]
Bacteria can move in several ways, but probably the most common means of locomotion is by the rotary organelles called flagella. Flagella are evolutionarily ancient and may be the most widespread machines of propulsion in biology: genes for flagellar components are found in almost half of the ...

Ootaxonomic investigation of five Lutzomyia species (Diptera, Psychodidae) from Venezuela
The eggshell fine structure of five sand fly species from Venezuela belonging to the genus Lutzomyia (L. migonei, L. ovallesi, L. absonodonta, L. gomezi and L. panamensis) was examined by scanning electron microscopy.

The Fine Structure of Bone [PDF]
X-RAY crystallographic studies by Engstrom and his collaborators1,2 have shown that the apatite crystallites of bone have linear dimensions of about 220 A. × 65 A. The crystals were aligned with their long axis parallel to the collagen fibre axis, and it was suggested that there may be three such inorganic crystals for each 640 A.

On Atomic Lifetimes and Environmental Density
Atomic lifetime measurements span a wide range, from attoseconds to years. The frontier of exploratory lifetime measurements, presently, is in the long part of the above time range, with an eye on astrophysical problems. In a combination of review paper,

The fine structure of ependymomas [PDF]
Electron microscopy is a useful diagnostic technique in order to confirm or establish a definitive diagnosis in brain tumors that may have an atypical histological pattern, which requires a concrete diagnosis. In ependymomas, electron microscopy reveals morphological characters that have a pathognomonic diagnostic value, therefore allowing a definitive

Effects of the Molecular Structure of Starch in Foods on Human Health
Starch provides approximately half of humans’ food energy, and its structural features influence human health. The most important structural feature is the chain length distribution (CLD), which affects properties such as the digestibility of starch ...
