Environmentally Friendlier Development of Latent Prints on Porous Surfaces Using 1,8-Diazafluoren-9-one (DFO) and iPhone 11

open access: yesForensic Sciences
A novel method for the development of fingerprints in environmentally friendlier conditions and on porous surfaces with 1,8-diazafluoren-9-one (DFO) is reported herein. DFO, a fluorescent dye was formulated in glacial acetic acid, methanol, and a minimum

Panako: a scalable acoustic fingerprinting system handling time-scale and pitch modification [PDF]

open access: yes, 2014
In this paper a scalable granular acoustic fingerprinting system robust against time and pitch scale modification is presented. The aim of acoustic fingerprinting is to identify identical, or recognize similar, audio fragments in a large set using ...

Red-emitting Al2O3:Eu3+ Phosphor Powders Featuring Sheet Morphology for the Application of Fingerprint Revealing

open access: yesMedžiagotyra
In this work, Al2O3:xEu3+ red phosphor powders were produced by the combustion synthesis technique with different x molar percentage concentrations of doping of x = 1.5, 3.0, 5.0, and 7.0 mol% of Eu.

Machine Learning Based Indoor Localization Using Wi-Fi RSSI Fingerprints: An Overview

open access: yesIEEE Access, 2021
In the era of the Internet of Things (IoT) and Industry 4.0, the indoor usage of smart devices is expected to increase, thereby making their location information more important. Based on various practical issues related to large delays, high design cost,

Cell wall target fragment discovery using a low‐cost, minimal fragment library

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
LoCoFrag100 is a fragment library made up of 100 different compounds. Similarity between the fragments is minimized and 10 different fragments are mixed into a single cocktail, which is soaked to protein crystals. These crystals are analysed by X‐ray crystallography, revealing the binding modes of the bound fragment ligands.

Fingerprints of Random Flows?

open access: yes, 2008
We consider the patterns formed by small rod-like objects advected by a random flow in two dimensions. An exact solution indicates that their direction field is non-singular.

Transferrin receptor 1‐mediated iron uptake supports thermogenic activation in human cervical‐derived adipocytes

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
In this study, we found that human cervical‐derived adipocytes maintain intracellular iron level by regulating the expression of iron transport‐related proteins during adrenergic stimulation. Melanotransferrin is predicted to interact with transferrin receptor 1 based on in silico analysis.

The recoverability of fingerprints on paper exposed to elevated temperatures - Part 1: comparison of enhancement techniques [PDF]

open access: yes, 2010
This research investigates the recoverability of fingerprints which have been exposed to elevated temperatures in order to mimic the environment a piece of paper may be exposed to within an arson scene. Arson is an expensive crime, costing the UK economy,
