The influence of cutting fluid conditions and machining parameters on cutting performance and wear mechanism of coated carbide tools [PDF]

open access: yesJurnal Tribologi, 2018
The present study investigates the effect of various cutting fluid cooling conditions and machining parameters on tool flank wear (VB) and surface roughness (Ra) in hard turning of AISI D2 steel using multilayer coated carbide inserts.

Guiding AlphaFold to predict how Munc13‐1 opens Syntaxin‐1

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
The syntaxin‐1 Habc‐domain (orange), linker (pink) and SNARE motif (yellow) form a closed conformation that binds to Munc18‐1 (violet) and is opened by the Munc13‐1 MUN domain (cyan) to form the SNARE complex that triggers neurotransmitter release.

Transcripts enriched in codons that trigger P‐site tRNA‐mediated mRNA decay possess stable mRNA

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
PTMD codons were first described by Mendel et al. as mediators of an mRNA decay pathway dependent on the human protein CNOT3, homologous to yeast Not5. Our findings confirm that PTMD codons destabilize transcripts; however, unlike in yeast, the human pathway specifically targets and slightly destabilizes primarily stable mRNAs.

Finish milling operations of AISI 420 B stainless steel under dry and wet conditions

open access: yes, 2007
The paper aims at investigating the effect of lubrication-cooling condition in industrial finish face milling operations. The machining tests were performed under different cutting speeds, in dry and wet cutting conditions, on AISI 420 B stainless steel.

Hyperosmotic stress‐induced redistribution of pre‐mRNA cleavage factor I subunits is associated with shifts in alternative polyadenylation

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Hyperosmotic stress triggers the relocation of the CFIm complex from the nucleus to the cytoplasm. This shift creates a nuclear ‘stoichiometric bottleneck’, limiting CFIm availability for mRNA processing. Consequently, specific mRNAs like NUDT21 and DICER1 undergo targeted 3′UTR shortening, demonstrating how spatial protein dynamics drive rapid ...

On the effects of tool nose radius in alleviating parasitic mechanisms for cutting of aluminum alloy

open access: yesAdvances in Mechanical Engineering
Despite extensive research and process advancements, parasitic mechanisms such as chatter, excessive tool wear, and energy dissipation continue to undermine the efficiency and sustainability of machining processes.

From energy provision to protein synthesis: Tunnelling nanotubes as mediators of intercellular metabolic cooperation in cancer

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
The cytoskeleton‐mediated transport of mitochondria via tunnelling nanotubes restores respiration, increases ATP production, rescues cells from apoptosis, activates the AKT/mTOR signalling pathway, promotes cell migration and invasiveness, contributes to cancer progression and treatment resistance.
