Hybrid flow shop scheduling with finite buffers

International Journal of Simulation and Process Modelling, 2018
In this paper, the scheduling problem for hybrid flow shop is investigated with the consideration of the finite buffers. Different from the existing works which focus on the makespan minimisation under the constraints of given intermediate buffer sizes, this paper investigates how to decide the reasonable size of the intermediate buffer.

A selective ARQ protocol with a finite-length buffer

IEEE Transactions on Communications, 1993
Of the automatic-repeat-request (ARQ) techniques commonly used in communication systems, selective protocols, while the most efficient, have the notable drawback of requiring large buffers at the receiver side. A selective ARQ protocol with a finite-length buffer is described.

On a critical regime for linear finite-buffer networks

2012 50th Annual Allerton Conference on Communication, Control, and Computing (Allerton), 2012
Linear networks consisting of finite-buffer nodes in tandem are considered. In particular, throughput properties of such networks are investigated, as their size increases. Using an approximation, we establish an asymptotic critical loading regime in which the ratio of the throughput to the input arrival rate is strictly within (0, 1). Such a regime is

3-D Implicit–Explicit Hybrid Finite Difference/Spectral Element/Finite Element Time Domain Method Without a Buffer Zone

IEEE Transactions on Antennas and Propagation, 2019
A nonconformal hybrid finite difference time domain (FDTD)/finite element time domain (FETD) method was previously introduced, which implemented the hybridization through a buffer zone.

Some ARQ protocols with finite receiver buffer

IEEE Transactions on Communications, 1993
Some new schemes for communication systems using error-detecting codes are described. These schemes use hybrid strategies for the retransmission of the codewords detected in error, and combine the advantages of the go-back-N and selective protocols. The memory, introduced at the receiver side, enhances their performance with respect to the classical ...

Modeling of Loosely Coupled Scatternets with Finite Buffers

SIMULATION, 2005
This article deals with the performance of Bluetooth scatternets in a real-life environment where different queues are implemented with finite buffers. Finite buffer size will introduce packet blocking at different queues along the packet path, which in turn causes changes in effective traffic load as well as retransmissions and ultimately affects end ...

Finite buffer analysis of multistage interconnection networks

IEEE Transactions on Computers, 1994
Proposes an analysis technique for a class of Multistage Interconnection Networks (MIN's) that have finite buffers at their switch inputs and operate in a synchronous packet-switched mode. The authors examine the issue of clock period in design and analysis of synchronous MIN's and propose a model based on small clock periods.
