The beam finite element with five nodal degrees of freedom
The article presents comparative calculations of reinforced concrete beams using two types of beam finite elements: with three and five nodal degrees of freedom. Calculations were performed both taking into account the concrete and reinforcement physical

Generating Random Elements of Finite Distributive Lattices
This survey article describes a method for choosing uniformly at random from any finite set whose objects can be viewed as constituting a distributive lattice. The method is based on ideas of the author and David Wilson for using ``coupling from the past'

Different forms of metric characterizations of classes of Banach spaces [PDF]
For each sequence X of finite-dimensional Banach spaces there exists a sequence H of finite connected nweighted graphs with maximum degree 3 such that the following conditions on a Banach space Y are equivalent: (1) Y admits uniformly isomorphic ...

ELEMENTS: A high-order finite element library in C++
We discuss the creation and implementation of a generalized library, named ELEMENTS, of mathematical functions for supporting a very broad range of element types including: linear, quadratic, and cubic serendipity elements in 2D and 3D; high-order ...

On elements in algebras having finite number of conjugates [PDF]
Let $R$ be a ring with unity and $U(R)$ its group of units. Let $\Delta U=\{a\in U(R)\mid [U(R):C_{U(R)}(a)]

Conservative Subgroup Separability For Surfaces With Boundary
If F is a surface with boundary, then a finitely generated subgroup without peripheral elements of G = {\pi}_1(F) can be separated from finitely many other elements of G by a finite index subgroup of G corresponding to a finite cover F' with the same ...

Thermoelectric Modules Incorporating MgAgSb and Mg3(Sb,Bi)2 Synthesized Using a Melting Method
A scalable synthesis method for a thermoelectric material of MgAgSb is established. A thermoelectric power module of MgAgSb/Mg3(Sb,Bi)2 is fabricated, showing the conversion efficiency of 7.4% at ΔT = 315 K. The performance is comparable to conventional Bi2Te3 modules when they are operated with an air‐cooled heat exchanger.

Probabilistic finite elements [PDF]
In the Probabilistic Finite Element Method (PFEM), finite element methods have been efficiently combined with second-order perturbation techniques to provide an effective method for informing the designer of the range of response which is likely in a ...

3D‐Printed Serial Snap‐Through Architectures for Programmable Mechanical Response
A serial snap‐through architecture is realized using compact 3D‐printed von Mises truss units arranged in a staged cascade. Their geometry and boundary conditions program multistage mechanical responses with plateaux and re‐hardening regimes. An inverted‐compliance model predicts these behaviors and enables analytical design of programmable force ...
