Finite impulse response digital filters

1999
The recursive filters of Chapter 5 are very efficient structures for achieving steep-sided filter designs, with low transition bandwidth. However, in many situations, their poor phase response is a severe limitation. Finite impulse response (FIR) filters are nonrecursive, making them unconditionally stable, and further they offer the possibility of ...

Finite Impulse Response Filters

2013
Filtering means preserving certain favored signal frequencies without distorting them while simultaneously suppressing others. Although there are many, many approaches to digital filtering, we focus on Finite Impulse Response (FIR) filters. As the name suggests, these filters have no feedback loops, which means that they stop producing output when the ...

Design and application of finite impulse response digital filters

European Journal of Nuclear Medicine, 1982
The finite impulse response (FIR) digital filter is a spatial domain filter with a frequency domain representation. The theory of the FIR filter is presented and techniques are described for designing FIR filters with known frequency response characteristics.

The use of finite impulse response filters in pulse design

Magnetic Resonance in Medicine, 1989
AbstractWe develop a new way of synthesizing pulse sequences with desirable frequency characteristics. By combining our previous results with techniques from the theory of finite impulse response filters, we can specify (1) the total duration of the pulse sequence, (2) the frequency ranges it is desired to perturb, (3) the desired perturbation, and (4)

Finite Impulse Response Filter (FIR Filter)

2017
This chapter deals with four types of FIR filter constructed using windowing technique. It also describes the set of FIR filter that have identical magnitude response, but different phase response.

Integrated optics implementation of finite impulse response filters

Applied Optics, 1990
A detailed analysis of an integrated optical finite impulse response filter architecture is presented. The output signal attenuation caused by the light propagation loss in a LiNbO(3) waveguide, and the diffracted light pulse time dispersion due to the tilted position of device electrooptic gratings, are analyzed.

Impulse response approximation of digital finite impulse response filter with delay line units

Automatic Control and Computer Sciences, 2017
This article proposes special digital filtering structures formed by one multiplier, one adder and a delay line. Such structures can be used to synthesize finite impulse response Hilbert filter. The advantage of such approach is reduced number of multipliers, compared to standard implementation.

The Approximation of Image Blur Restoration Filters by Finite Impulse Responses

IEEE Transactions on Pattern Analysis and Machine Intelligence, 1980
Image blur can often be modeled by a linear spatially invariant, symmetric point spread function. For this class of functions, several restoration filters are known in the literature. The approximation of their frequency transfer functions (ftf's) by the ftf's of small finite impulse response (FIR) filters has been studied. Accurate approximations will
