Temperature of Steel Columns under Natural Fire

open access: yesActa Polytechnica, 2004
Current fire design models for time-temperature development within structural elements as well as for structural behaviour are based on isolated member tests subjected to standard fire regimes, which serve as a reference heating, but do not model natural

A review of wildland fire spread modelling, 1990-present, 1: Physical and quasi-physical models

open access: yes, 2007
In recent years, advances in computational power and spatial data analysis (GIS, remote sensing, etc) have led to an increase in attempts to model the spread and behaviour of wildland fires across the landscape. This series of review papers endeavours to

Multiple factors in the assessment of firesetters' fire interest and attitudes [PDF]

open access: yes, 2014
Purpose: The number of measures available to practitioners to assess fire interest and other fire-related attitudes is limited. To help establish the utility of such measures, this study explored whether three fire measures contained multiple factors and

Programmable DNA‐Peptide Hybrid Nanostructures for Potent Neutralization of Multiple Influenza a Virus Subtypes

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
A multivalent antiviral platform based on honeycomb‐shaped DNA nanostructures (HC–Urumin) is developed to enhance the potency and breadth of the host defense peptide Urumin. Through spatially patterned trimeric presentation, HC–Urumin disrupts influenza A virus entry, improves cell viability, and reduces disease severity in vivo‐offering a modular and ...

Coordinated Multi‐Component Gradient Engineering of Catalyst Layers for Advanced Polymer Electrolyte Fuel Cells

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
This work presents a continuous linear gradient catalyst layer design, a general strategy for improving membrane electrode assemblies across electrochemical devices. Fabricated via a dual‐nozzle spray coating method, the architecture controls the Pt/carbon ratio, ionomer content and ionomer type across the catalyst layer, enhancing proton conduction ...

Halogen-Free Flame Retardant Impact on Rigid Polyisocyanurate Foam Properties

open access: yesFire
This study evaluates the impact of different flame retardants on the mechanical and thermal properties of rigid polyisocyanurate (PIR) foams, focusing on formulations with isocyanate indexes of 335 and 400.

Universal Neuromorphic Element: NbOx Memristor with Co‐Existing Volatile, Non‐Volatile, and Threshold Switching

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
A W/NbOx/Pt memristor demonstrates the coexistence of volatile, non‐volatile, and threshold switching characteristics. Volatile switching serves as a reservoir computing layer, providing dynamic short‐term processing. Non‐volatile switching, stabilized through ISPVA, improves reliable long‐term readout. Threshold switching operates as a leaky integrate

The influence of leaf morphology on litter flammability and its utility for interpreting palaeofire [PDF]

open access: yes, 2016
This is the author accepted manuscript. The final version is available from the publisher via the DOI in this record.Studies of palaeofire rely on quantifying the abundance of fossil charcoals in sediments to estimate changes in fire activity.

A Van der Waals Optoelectronic Synapse with Tunable Positive and Negative Post‐Synaptic Current for Highly Accurate Spiking Neural Networks

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
A van der Waals optoelectronic synaptic device based on a ReS2/WSe2 heterostructure and oxygen‐treated h‐BN is presented, which enables both positive and negative PSCs through photocarrier polarity reversal. Bidirectional plasticity arises from gate‐tunable band bending and charge trapping‐induced quasi‐doping.
