CRITICAL FIRE WEATHER PATTERNS, THEIR FREQUENCY AND LEVELS OF FIRE DANGER

1966
Abstract : Weather is one of the dominant factors responsible for uncontrollable spread of mass fires in both urban and rural areas. Identification of the weather types causing critical burning conditions in 14 contiguous regions of the United States was the subject of the previous report.

A digital display of neuronal average firing frequencies

Journal of Applied Physiology, 1976
A digital instrument is described which displays on a three-digit, seven-segment display the average firing frequency of a neuron. Averaging is done over essentially consecutive timing intervals of 1, 2, 5, 10, 20, or 50 s. Provision is made for overflow indication and for manual resetting.

Frequency and Characteristics of Arctic Tundra Fires

ARCTIC, 1976
Characteristics of over 50 tundra fires, located primarily in the western Arctic, are summarized. In general, only recent records were available and the numbers of fires were closely related to the accessibility of the area. Most of them covered areas of less than one square kilometre (in contrast to forest fires which are frequently larger) but three ...

A mechanism for minimizing temperature effects on repetitive firing frequency

American Journal of Physiology-Cell Physiology, 1978
The magnitudes and time courses of conductance changes in molluscan neurons show marked temperature dependence. Interestingly, though, the relationship between repetitive firing frequency and stimulus current is not greatly affected by moderated temperature changes (6-8 degrees C).

A note on fire frequency concepts and definitions

Canadian Journal of Forest Research, 2006
The concepts of hazard of burning, fire interval, and fire cycle are considered. It is claimed that the current notion of fire cycle is poorly defined, since the time required to burn a specified area is a random variable. It is shown that the expected time to burn an area equal in size to the study area normally exceeds the fire interval (the average

The effect of fire frequency on local cembra pine populations

Ecology, 2009
It has been predicted that global climate change will lead to increasing drought in the Alps during the 21st century, as well as an increased fire risk, fires being currently rare in these mountains. Herein we describe fire frequency reconstruction using high‐resolution analyses of macroscopic sedimentary charcoal, pollen, and plant macrofossils ...

Effect of the Twirling Frequency on Firing Patterns Evoked by Acupuncture

2010
Acupuncture is an important component of Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) with a long history. Although there are a number of different acupuncture manipulations, the relationship between the evoked electrical signals and manipulations is rarely investigated.

Estimating historical forest-fire frequencies for time-since-last-fire-sample data

Mathematical Medicine and Biology, 1997
Summary: A method of estimating historical forest-fire frequencies based on time-since-last-fire observations at a simple random sample of points in an area of undisturbed forest is presented. The historical-fire-hazard rate function is assumed to be piecewise constant (constant within distinct epochs separated by change points). The method is based on
