El Nino and Health Risks from Landscape Fire Emissions in Southeast Asia [PDF]

open access: yes, 2012
Emissions from landscape fires affect both climate and air quality. Here, we combine satellite-derived fire estimates and atmospheric modelling to quantify health effects from fire emissions in southeast Asia from 1997 to 2006.

Modelling Fire Frequency in a Cerrado Savanna Protected Area

open access: yesPLoS ONE, 2014
Covering almost a quarter of Brazil, the Cerrado is the world’s most biologically rich tropical savanna. Fire is an integral part of the Cerrado but current land use and agricultural practices have been changing fire regimes, with undesirable ...

Potential therapeutic targeting of BKCa channels in glioblastoma treatment

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
This review summarizes current insights into the role of BKCa and mitoBKCa channels in glioblastoma biology, their potential classification as oncochannels, and the emerging pharmacological strategies targeting these channels, emphasizing the translational challenges in developing BKCa‐directed therapies for glioblastoma treatment.

Computer Aided Modelling of Compartment Fires – an Overview [PDF]

open access: yesKošická bezpečnostná revue, 2019
Several programme environments, computer models, have been developed and used in recent years to model the dynamic of internal fire. It is a very progressive approach, which has its application both in the design of fire safety of buildings, the ...

Modelling Fire Severity and Evacuation in Tunnels

open access: yesCommunications, 2013
Adequate design methods and tools are vital to any construction project, especially when its complexity and value are high. Tunnels, road or railway, are a good example of such structures. This paper deals with the topic of computer modelling utilization

LES Simulation of Wind-Driven Wildfire Interaction with Idealized Structures in the Wildland-Urban Interface

open access: yesAtmosphere, 2020
This paper presents a numerical investigation of the impact of a wind-driven surface fire, comparable to a large wildfire, on an obstacle located downstream of the fire source.

A forest fire hazard model and map for a wildland urban interface not meteorologically prone to forest fires

open access: yesTerritorium: Revista Portuguesa de riscos, prevenção e segurança, 2023
Fire Hazard (FH) modelling is a relevant fire prevention/assessment tool. This work proposes a FH model and generates a FH map for a wildland urban interface area in Germany that is not prone to extreme fires.

Experimental and numerical investigation of post-tensioned concrete flat slabs in fire [PDF]

open access: yes, 2016
Purpose This paper aims to understand the structural fire performance of two-way post-tensioned flat slabs, particularly their deformations and load-carrying mechanisms in fire, and to explore the behaviour of post-tensioned high-strength self ...

Pathogenic Neurofibromatosis type 1 gene variants in tumors of non‐NF1 patients and role of R1276

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Somatic variants of the neurofibromatosis type 1 (NF1) gene occur across neoplasms without clinical manifestation of the disease NF1. We identified emerging somatic pathogenic NF1 variants and hotspots, for example, at the arginine finger 1276. Those missense variants provide fundamental information about neurofibromin's role in cancer.
