Physics-based urban fire spread simulation coupled with stochastic occurrence of spot fires

Stochastic Environmental Research and Risk Assessment, 2019
This paper presents the development and validation of physics-based urban fire spread simulation coupled with stochastic occurrence of spot fires. When a fire occurs in densely-built wooden residential area, the fire easily spreads to adjacent buildings because of the narrow distance between buildings.

Fire occurrence and fire mitigation strategies in a grassland reforestation area in the Philippines

Forest Policy and Economics, 2016
Abstract While fire has been identified as a major factor negatively affecting success of reforestation projects in the Philippines, no study so far has been conducted on the types and extent of fire mitigation strategies being implemented by upland farmers.

Stochastic Representation of Fire Occurrence in a Wildland Fire Protection Planning Model for California

Forest Science, 1988
Abstract A fire occurrence module was developed for CFES-IAM Version 2, a stochastic simulation model of initial attack on wildfires in California. The module is designed to generate annual sequences of fire start times that are consistent with local fire history.

Unraveling the complexities in fire regimes by modeling of fire occurrence and burned area

2023
Fire is an ancient phenomenon, with its presence on Earth dating back to the Silurian period. This long history of fire has caused ecosystems to co-evolve with fire, resulting in adaptations from individual species to the ecosystem level. However, human activities have begun to push fire activities around the world beyond natural regimes.

Occurrences of lightning fires — Can they be simulated?

Fire Technology, 1976
A computer simulation model of lightning fire discoveries has been developed by analyzing historical records of lightning fire occurrences. The model is being tested by using reports of lightning fires from four national forests. Results suggest that statistical distributions can be used to model the characteristics of lightning fire discoveries ...
