A comparison of the US National Fire Danger Rating System (NFDRS) with recorded fire occurrence and final fire size

International Journal of Wildland Fire, 2018
Most previous research has assessed the ability of the National Fire Danger Rating System (NFDRS) to portray fire activity at either single sites or on small spatial scales, despite it being a nation-wide system. This study seeks to examine the relationships between a set of NFDRS fire danger indices (Fire Danger Ratings, Staffing Level and the ...

Forest fire risk assessment using point process modelling of fire occurrence and Monte Carlo fire simulation

International Journal of Wildland Fire, 2017
Risk assessment of forest fires requires an integrated estimation of fire occurrence probability and burn probability because fire spread is largely influenced by ignition locations as well as fuels, weather, topography and other environmental factors. This study aims to assess forest fire risk over a large forested landscape using both fire occurrence

First occurrence of hippocampal spatial firing in a new environment

Experimental Neurology, 1978
Abstract Previous work has identified “spatial units” in recordings from dorsal hippocampus of rats. These units fire at high rates only when rats are in specific localized regions of the recording environment. An investigation was made of the time course with which such spatial firing first appears in a new environment.
