Lessons Learned From a Delayed‐Start Trial of Modafinil for Freezing of Gait in Parkinson's Disease
ABSTRACT Objective Freezing of gait (FOG) in people with Parkinson's disease (PwPD) is debilitating and has limited treatments. Modafinil modulates beta/gamma band activity in the pedunculopontine nucleus (PPN), like PPN deep brain stimulation. We therefore tested the hypothesis that Modafinil would improve FOG in PwPD.

Exploratory study into a safety format for composite columns exposed to fire [PDF]
Current performance based structural fire engineering approaches evaluate structural behaviour under prescribed fire scenarios. The mechanical properties of the materials, the load conditions and geometric parameters are all however fraught with ...

Harnessing Fungal Biowelding for Constructing Mycelium‐Engineered Materials
Mycelium‐bound composites (MBCs) offer low‐carbon alternatives for construction, yet interfacial bonding remains a critical challenge. This review examines fungal biowelding as a biocompatible adhesive, elucidating mycelium‐mediated interfacial mechanisms and their role in material assembly. Strategies to optimize biowelding are discussed, highlighting

Numerical Modeling of Tank Cars Carrying Hazardous Materials With and Without Composite Metal Foam
Large‐scale puncture models consisting of hazardous materials (HAZMATs) tank car with protective steel–steel composite metal foam (S–S CMF) are solved numerically. Tank car plate with added 10.91–13.33 mm thick S–S CMF layer does not puncture. Protective S–S CMF absorbs impact energy, reduces plate deformation, and prevents shear bands formation ...

A Review of Sociological Issues in Fire Safety Regulation [PDF]
This paper presents an overview of contemporary sociological issues in fire safety. The most obviously social aspects of fire safety—those that relate to the socioeconomic distribution of fire casualties and damage—are discussed first.

Bio‐Inspired Multimodal Hardware Front‐End Enabled by 2D Floating‐Gate Memory for UAV Perception
A MoS2/h‐BN /graphene floating‐gate memory underpins a bio‐inspired multimodal front end that integrates visual, inertial, and airflow cues. A 4 × 4 FG memory array encodes temporal intensity differences, while IMU‐ and airflow‐driven threshold modulation suppresses self‐motion artifacts, enabling fast, low‐power, robust autonomous UAV tracking and ...
