On the complexity of the chip-firing reachability problem [PDF]

open access: yes, 2016
In this paper, we study the complexity of the chip-firing reachability problem. We show that for Eulerian digraphs, the reachability problem can be decided in strongly polynomial time, even if the digraph has multiple edges.

Características e efeito da fração granulométrica < 2 µm no comportamento de queima de uma argila Characteristics and effect of the granulometric fraction < 2 µm on the firing behavior of a clay

Dense gap-junction connections support dynamic Turing structures in the cortex [PDF]

open access: yes, 2007
The recent report by Fukuda et al [1] provides convincing evidence for dense gap-junction connectivity between inhibitory neurons in the cat visual cortex, each neuron making 60 +/- 12 gap-junction dendritic connections with neurons in both the same and ...

Root system chip-firing II: Central-firing

open access: yes, 2019
Jim Propp recently proposed a labeled version of chip-firing on a line and conjectured that this process is confluent from some initial configurations. This was proved by Hopkins-McConville-Propp. We reinterpret Propp's labeled chip-firing moves in terms

The Decoration and Firing of Ancient Greek Pottery: A Review of Recent Investigations

open access: yesAdvances in Archaeomaterials, 2021
The wealth and diversity of decoration on Greek pottery continues to attract science-based attention. The availability of increasingly powerful analytical techniques has allowed the nature of the decoration to be investigated in ever-finer detail, down ...

A simple Hidden Markov Model for midbrain dopaminergic neurons [PDF]

open access: yes, 2009
Poster presentation: Introduction Dopaminergic neurons in the midbrain show a variety of firing patterns, ranging from very regular firing pacemaker cells to bursty and irregular neurons.

Firing regulation of fast-spiking interneurons by autaptic inhibition [PDF]

open access: yes, 2016
Fast-spiking (FS) interneurons in the brain are self-innervated by powerful inhibitory GABAergic autaptic connections. By computational modelling, we investigate how autaptic inhibition regulates the firing response of such interneurons.

Wage Effects of Non-wage Labour Costs [PDF]

open access: yes, 2014
We study wage effects of two important elements of non-wage labour costs: firing costs and payroll taxes. We exploit a reform that introduced substantial reduction in these two provisions for unemployed workers aged less than 30 and over 45 years who got

Fast Global Oscillations in Networks of Integrate-and-Fire Neurons with Low Firing Rates [PDF]

open access: yesNeural Computation, 1999
We study analytically the dynamics of a network of sparsely connected inhibitory integrate-and-fire neurons in a regime where individual neurons emit spikes irregularly and at a low rate. In the limit when the number of neurons N , the network exhibits a
