Impact of a senior research thesis on students' perceptions of scientific inquiry in distinct student populations

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
This study addressed how a senior research thesis is perceived by undergraduate students. It assessed students' perception of research skills, epistemological beliefs, and career goals in Biochemistry (science) and BDC (science‐business) students. Completing a thesis improved confidence in research skills, resilience, scientific identity, closed gender‐

The photoswitchable cannabinoid azo‐HU308 enables optical control of Ca2+ dynamics in INS‐1 β‐cells via off‐target effects on TRPC channels

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Light activation of the photoswitchable cannabinoid ligand azo‐HU308 triggers Ca2+ influx in pancreatic β‐cells through TRPC channels, independent of CB2 cannabinoid receptors. This reveals a non‐GPCR pathway for cannabinoid modulation of β‐cell Ca2+ dynamics and establishes azo‐HU308 as an optical tool to study cannabinoid signaling through TRP ...

The Relationship between Corporate Governance Indicators and Firm Value: A Case Study of Karachi Stock Exchange [PDF]

open access: yes
We investigated whether differences in quality of firm-level corporate governance can explain the firm-level performance in a cross-section of companies listed at Karachi Stock Exchange. Therefore, we analysed the relationship between firm-level value as

Antibiofilm activity of a chionodracine‐derived peptide by NMR‐based metabolomics of cell‐free supernatant of Acinetobacter baumannii clinical strains

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
KHS‐Cnd peptide is able to impair biofilm formation and disaggregate mature biofilms in Acinetobacter baumannii clinical isolates. Differences in extracellular metabolites reflect changes in biofilm metabolism due to KHS‐Cnd treatment. Among the differentially represented extracellular metabolites upon KHS‐Cnd treatment, the significantly altered ...

Boardroom Centrality and Firm Performance

open access: yesNordic Journal of Business, 2022
We study the link between boardroom centrality and operating performance in private firms. We argue that the centrality-performance relationship is stronger for private firms whose increased connectedness is likely to provide certification benefits, decrease transaction costs by reducing information asymmetry, and improve access to critical resources ...

Pathogenic Neurofibromatosis type 1 gene variants in tumors of non‐NF1 patients and role of R1276

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Somatic variants of the neurofibromatosis type 1 (NF1) gene occur across neoplasms without clinical manifestation of the disease NF1. We identified emerging somatic pathogenic NF1 variants and hotspots, for example, at the arginine finger 1276. Those missense variants provide fundamental information about neurofibromin's role in cancer.

ATP13A2 is involved in intracellular polyamine transport in lung epithelial cells

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Spermidine transport in lung epithelial cells involves the polyamine transporter ATP13A2. Cell proliferation is associated with the upregulation of ATP13A2. Polyamines are present in all living cells and are implicated in various crucial cellular processes such as proliferation, apoptosis and autophagy.

Interest alignment and firm performance [PDF]

open access: yes
This study derives testable hypotheses from their framework and thus provides an empirical test of interest alignment theory based on a sample of 69 management buyouts in the UK.
