Macroscopic model with anisotropy based on micro-macro informations [PDF]

open access: yes, 2014
Physical experiments can characterize the elastic response of granular materials in terms of macroscopic state-variables, namely volume (packing) fraction and stress, while the microstructure is not accessible and thus neglected.

Two‐Dimensional Materials as a Multiproperty Sensing Platform

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Various sensing modalities enabled and/or enhanced by two‐dimensional (2D) materials are reviewed. The domains considered for sensing include: 1) optoelectronics, 2) quantum defects, 3) scanning probe microscopy, 4) nanomechanics, and 5) bio‐ and chemosensing.

Nonlinear analysis of stability for imperfect eccentrically stiffened FGM plates under mechanical and thermal loads based on FSDT. Part 1: Governing equations establishment

open access: yesVietnam Journal of Mechanics, 2015
In this paper, the buckling and post-buckling behaviors of eccentrically  stiffened functionally graded material (ES-FGM) plates on elastic  foundations subjected to in-plane compressive loads or thermal loads are  investigated by an analytical solution.

Equivalent layered models for functionally graded plates [PDF]

open access: yes, 2016
Functionally graded plates whose material properties vary continuously through the thickness are modelled as exactly equivalent plates composed of up to four isotropic layers.

Microsphere Autolithography—A Scalable Approach for Arbitrary Patterning of Dielectric Spheres

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
MicroSphere Autolithography (µSAL) enables scalable fabrication of patchy particles with customizable surface motifs. Focusing light through dielectric microspheres creates well defined, tunable patches via a conformal poly(dopamine) photoresist. Nearly arbitrary surface patterns can be achieved, with the resolution set by the index contrast between ...

Exact thermoelastic analysis of a thick cylindrical functionally graded material shell under unsteady heating using first order shear deformation theory

open access: yesHeat Transfer-Asian Research, 2019
In this article, a new analytical formulation is presented for axisymmetric thick-walled FGM cylinder with power-law variation in mechanical and thermal properties under transient heating using first order shear deformation theory.

Fluid Vesicles in Flow [PDF]

open access: yes, 2014
We review the dynamical behavior of giant fluid vesicles in various types of external hydrodynamic flow. The interplay between stresses arising from membrane elasticity, hydrodynamic flows, and the ever present thermal fluctuations leads to a rich ...

Local Thermal Conductivity Patterning in Rotating Lattice Crystals of Anisotropic Sb2S3

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Microscale control of thermal conductivity in Sb2S3 is demonstrated via laser‐induced rotating lattice crystals. Thermal conductivity imaging reveals marked thermal transport anisotropy, with the c axis featuring amorphous‐like transport, whereas in‐plane directions (a, b) exhibit 3.5x and 1.7x larger thermal conductivity.

Analytical Solutions to General Anti-Plane Shear Problems In Finite Elasticity [PDF]

open access: yes, 2014
This paper presents a pure complementary energy variational method for solving anti-plane shear problem in finite elasticity. Based on the canonical duality-triality theory developed by the author, the nonlinear/nonconex partial differential equation for
