Buckling of Functionally Graded Nanobeams Based on the Nonlocal New First-Order Shear Deformation Beam Theory

open access: yesMATEC Web of Conferences, 2014
In this work, the size-dependent buckling behavior of functionally graded (FG) nanobeams is investigated on the basis of the nonlocal continuum model.

The cantilever beams analysis by the means of the first-order shear deformation and the Euler-Bernoulli theory

open access: yesTehnički glasnik, 2019
The effect of the Timoshenko theory and the Euler-Bernoulli theory are investigated in this paper through numerical and analytical analyses. The investigation was required to obtain the optimized position of the pipes support. The Timoshenko beam theory or the first order shear deformation theory was used regarding thick beams where the shearing effect

Flexoelectrically Induced Polar Topology in Twisted SrTiO3 Membranes

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
Twisted SrTiO3 bilayers host polar vortices of flexoelectric origin, revealed through combined experiment and theory. By reconstructing polarization from the toroidal moment of strain gradients, the work establishes a 3D chiral state with broken inversion and mirror symmetries.

Ammonium Salts as Curing Agents to Obtain Ionic Epoxy Resins With a Thermoplastic‐to‐Thermoset Transition

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
Ionic epoxy networks are prepared using ammonium salts as hardeners, leading to a two‐stage curing process with a thermoplastic‐like intermediate. This uncommon behavior enables extrusion and fabrication of thermoplastic prepregs that can be cured into thermoset composites.

Sub‐Nanometer Curvature Unlocks Quantum Orbital Flexoelectricity in Graphene

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
In self‐assembled, reproducible, large‐area, quasi‐pristine graphene nanowrinkles, extreme curvature forces out‐of‐plane π‐electrons toward hybridization, driving a transition from classical to quantum orbital flexoelectricity. As curvature approaches the fundamental physical limit set by the C─C bond length, the resulting polarization increases by ...

Modal analysis of plates resting on elastic foundation based on the first-order shear deformation theory and finite element method

open access: yesVietnam Journal of Mechanics
This paper investigates the free vibration characteristics of plate structures supported by a Pasternak elastic foundation, utilizing the first-order shear deformation theory (FSDT). FSDT simplifies the plate theory by considering only first-order shear

Highly Entangled Bottlebrush Polymer Networks

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
Bottlebrush polymers are difficult to entangle, enabling ultrasoft yet brittle networks. We report highly entangled bottlebrush elastomers that remain ultrasoft (∼1 kPa) yet stretch to ∼1800% and exhibit exceptional fatigue resistance. Their intrinsic fatigue strength—fatigue threshold normalized by modulus—surpasses that of highly entangled linear ...
