Shear Correction Factors for Functionally Graded Plates [PDF]

open access: yesMechanics of Advanced Materials and Structures, 2007
The Reissner-Mindlin plate model for calculation of functionally graded materials has been proposed in literature by using shear correction coefficient of homogeneous model. However, this use is a priori not appropriate for the gradient material. Identification of the transverse shear factors is thus investigated in this paper.

Revisiting the Bjerrum's correction factor: Use of the liquidity index for assessing the effect of soil plasticity on undrained shear strength

open access: yesJournal of Rock Mechanics and Geotechnical Engineering, 2015
The undrained shear strength (su) of fine-grained soils that can be measured in situ and in laboratory is one of the key geotechnical parameters. The unconfined compression test (UCT) is widely used in laboratory to measure this parameter due to its ...

On principal shear axes for correction factors in Timoshenko beam theory

open access: yesInternational Journal of Solids and Structures, 2013
Compelling arguments with substantiating data are presented to explain why there is no role for principal shear axes in shear correction factors of Timoshenko beam theory. This article supplies more details to the explanation in a previous paper on this issue.

Shear Correction Factor for Porous Eco-Materials: Mechanical Characterization of a Heterogeneous Medium

open access: yesBuildings
Classical formulas for the shear correction factor ks, typically derived for homogeneous continua, are unsuitable for porous media exhibiting local density gradients, irregular pore morphologies, and spatially varying stiffness.
