Ultrafast Photocatalytic Wettability Switching in Substrate‐Interface Tailored Titanium Dioxide Thin Films

open access: yesAdvanced Materials Interfaces, EarlyView.
This study demonstrates ultrafast photocatalytic wettability switching in TiO2 thin films by tailoring substrate doping and interface oxides. Enhanced switching rates and hemiwicking effects are achieved through optimized material stacks and nanostructuring.

Exports, foreign direct investment, and productivity: Evidence from German firm level data [PDF]

open access: yes
This paper presents the first empirical test with German establishment level data of a hypothesis derived by Helpman, Melitz and Yeaple in a model that explains the decision of heterogeneous firms to serve foreign markets either trough exports or foreign

Lattice Structures for Bone Replacement: The Intersection of Bone Biomechanics, Lattice Design, and Additive Manufacturing

open access: yesAdvanced Materials Technologies, EarlyView.
This review outlines how understanding bone's biology, hierarchical architecture, and mechanical anisotropy informs the design of lattice structures that replicate bone morphology and mechanical behavior. Additive manufacturing enables the fabrication of orthopedic implants that incorporate such structures using a range of engineering materials ...

Complexity of Minimizing Projected-Gradient-Dominated Functions with Stochastic First-order Oracles

open access: yes
This work investigates the performance limits of projected stochastic first-order methods for minimizing functions under the $(α,τ,\mathcal{X})$-projected-gradient-dominance property, that asserts the sub-optimality gap $F(\mathbf{x})-\min_{\mathbf{x}'\in \mathcal{X}}F(\mathbf{x}')$ is upper-bounded by $τ\cdot\|\mathcal{G}_{η,\mathcal{X}}(\mathbf{x})\|^

A Bistochastic Nonparametric Estimator [PDF]

open access: yes
We explore the relevance of adopting a bistochastic nonparametric estimator. This estimator has two main implications. First, the estimator reduces variability according to the robust criterion of second-order stochastic (and Lorenz) dominance. This is a

Lead‐Free Bismuth Halide Perovskite Memristors: Low‐Voltage Switching and Physical Modeling of Resistive Hysteresis

open access: yesAdvanced Materials Technologies, EarlyView.
Lead‐free bismuth halide perovskite memristors exhibit stable low‐voltage resistive switching behavior. The conductance‐activated quasi‐linear memristor model quantitatively reproduces the experimental hysteresis, confirming ion migration‐driven filament dynamics.

Quasi‐Random Nanostructured Substrates for Enhancing Light Outcoupling in OLEDs

open access: yesAdvanced Optical Materials, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Organic light–emitting diodes (OLEDs) suffer from low light outcoupling efficiency, with much of the generated light trapped within the device. To address this issue, we present a scalable, maskless, polymer‐free strategy for fabricating quasi‐random external nanowire (ENW) and internal nanocorrugation (INC) structures directly on glass ...

Nonparametric inference for second order stochastic dominance [PDF]

open access: yes
This paper deals with nonparametric inference for second order stochastic dominance of two random variables. If their distribution functions are unknown they have to be inferred from observed realizations. Thus, any results on stochastic dominance are in

Identifying Physical Interactions in Contact‐Based Robot Manipulation for Learning from Demonstration

open access: yesAdvanced Robotics Research, EarlyView.
Robots can learn manipulation tasks from human demonstrations. This work proposes a versatile method to identify the physical interactions that occur in a demonstration, such as sequences of different contacts and interactions with mechanical constraints.

On Abel's Concepts of Doubt and Pessimism. [PDF]

open access: yes
In this paper, we characterize subjective probability beliefs leading to a higher equilibrium market price of risk. We establish that Abel's result on the impact of doubt on the risk premium is not correct in general; see Abel [2002.
